1996 IBSF World Snooker Championship
The 1996 IBSF World Snooker Championship was an amateur snooker tournament that took place from 15 November to 30 November 1996 in New Plymouth, New Zealand It was the 23rd edition of the IBSF World Snooker Championship and also doubled as a World Snooker Tour#Other qualification routes, qualification event for the World Snooker Tour. Englishman Stuart Bingham won the event by defeating Australians, Australian Stan Gorski 11–5 in the final. This was Bingham's first major championship and as a result Bingham won a spot on the professional World Snooker Tour. Ken Doherty (born 17 September 1969) is an Irish professional snooker player, commentator and radio presenter. As an amateur, Doherty won the Irish Amateur Championship twice, the World Under-21 Amateur Championship and the World Amateur Championship. Since turning professional in 1990, Doherty has won six ranking tournaments, including the 1997 World Snooker Championship in which he defeated Stephen Hendry, inflicting Hendry's first loss in a world final. Muhammad Yousaf ( ur, محمد یوسف, born 1952), also spelled as Mohammed Yousuf, is a Pakistani snooker player. He is the winner of the 1994 IBSF World Snooker Championship, 2006 IBSF World Masters Championship, and 1998 ACBS Asian Snooker Championship.
