1996 Historic Formula One Championship
The 1996 Historic Formula One Championship was the second season of the Historic Formula One Championship. It began at Donington Park on May 5 and ended at Brno on September 29. Historic Formula One Championship
The Historic Formula One Championship, previously known as the Thoroughbred Grand Prix Championship, was a championship for Formula One cars from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s which is sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile. The motor sport's world governing body. The championship was recognised by the FIA in 1994 as the only official FIA Historic Formula One Championship and its first season was in 1995. For 2013, the series was absorbed by Masters Racing to create the FIA Masters Historic Formula One Championship. Lotus 72
The Lotus 72 is a Formula One car designed by Colin Chapman and Maurice Philippe of Lotus for the 1970 Formula One season. The 72 was a pioneering design featuring inboard brakes, side-mounted radiators in sidepods (as opposed to the nose-mounted radiators, which had been commonplace since before World War II), and aerodynamic wings producing down-force. Development The overall shape of the 72 was innovative, resembling a wedge on wheels which was inspired by the earlier Lotus 56 gas turbine car. The shape made for better air penetration and higher speeds. In a back-to-back test with the Lotus 49, the 72 was 12 mph faster with the same Cosworth engine. Chapman's and Phillippe's efforts produced one of the most remarkable and successful designs in F1 history. Donington Park
Donington Park is a motorsport circuit located near Castle Donington in Leicestershire, England. The circuit business is now owned by Jonathan Palmer's MotorSport Vision organisation, and the surrounding Donington Park Estate, still owned by the Wheatcroft family, is currently under lease by MotorSport Vision until 2038. It has a capacity of 120,000, and is also the venue of the Download Festival. Originally part of the Donington Hall estate, it was created as a racing circuit during the period between the First and Second World Wars when the German Silver Arrows were battling for the European Championship. Used as a military vehicle storage depot during the Second World War, it fell into disrepair until bought by local construction entrepreneur Tom Wheatcroft. Mike Littlewood (racing Driver)
Michael Rory Littlewood is an American baseball coach. He played college baseball at BYU from 1985 to 1988, before playing professionally in 1988. He then served as the head coach of then ''Dixie State Rebels'' (later called "Red Storm", now Utah Tech Trailblazers) from 1996-2012, and then the BYU Cougars (2013–2022.) Playing career Littlewood was a third baseman at BYU, earning All-Conference as both a junior and senior. He was drafted in the 27th round of the 1988 MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers and played one season at Class-A Beloit Brewers. Coaching career Shortly after his playing career ended, Littlewood accepted the head coaching position at Alta High School in Sandy, Utah. Williams FW07B
The Williams FW07 was a ground effect Formula One racing car designed by Patrick Head, Frank Dernie, and Neil Oatley for the 1979 F1 season. Design 1979 It was closely based on the Lotus 79, even being developed in the same wind tunnel at Imperial College London. Some observers, among them Lotus aerodynamicist Peter Wright felt the FW07 was little more than a re-engineered Lotus 79, just having a stiffer chassis. The car was small and simple and extremely light, powered by the ubiquitous Ford Cosworth DFV. It had very clean lines and seemed to be a strong challenger for the new season, but early reliability problems halted any serious threat for the title. Bob Berridge
Robert Charles Berridge (born 13 September 1956 in Middlesbourgh) is a British racing driver. He won the title in the Historic Formula One Championship series three years in a row. In 1997, he won in a RAM 01 car and the next two years he won in a Williams FW08. He had previously competed in rounds of the British Touring Car Championship and British Formula Three Championship. Career Berridge won two Formula Ford 1600 titles in 1985 and 1986 was second in the Toyota Formula Three Championship in 1987. He later won the Porsche Club GB Championship in 1990. He won in the Historic Formula One Championship series three years in a row 1997, 1998, and 1999. In 1997, he won the title in a RAM 01 car, and then took the title the following two years he won in a Williams FW08. The RAM 01 is an open-wheel Formula One race car built by British team and constructor RAM team in . Design and development The 01 was the first car built by the British team to participate in the 1983 Formula One world championship. Designed by Dave Kelly, the car was equipped with a 530-hp Ford Cosworth DFY V8 powertrain with of torque, which drove the rear wheels through a five-speed Hewland FGA manual gearbox. The is a 150,000 person capacity motorsports complex located in the town of Nürburg, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It features a Formula One, Grand Prix race track built in 1984, and a long "North loop" track, built in the 1920s, around the village and medieval castle of Nürburg in the Eifel mountains.
