1995–96 Belgian First Division
Following is a list of the 1995–96 Belgian First Division season. The Belgian Pro League (officially known as Jupiler Pro League []) is the top league competition for association football clubs in Belgium. Contested by 16 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Belgian Second Division. The competition was created in 1895 by the Royal Belgian Football Association and was first won by FC Liégeois. Club Brugge won the title of the 1995–96 season. Belgian First Division
The Belgian Pro League,(officially the Jupiler Pro League due to sponsorship reasons with Jupiler), is the top league competition for association football clubs in Belgium. Contested by 18 clubs since the 2020–21 season and reduced to 16 teams from the 2023–24 season onwards, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Challenger Pro League. Seasons run from early August to late April, with teams playing 34 matches each in the regular season, and then entering Play-offs I (also known as the ''Championship Playoff'', ''title playoffs'' or ''Champions' play-offs'') or Play-offs II (also known as the ''Europa League playoff'' or ''Europe play-offs'') according to their position in the regular season. Play-offs I are contested by the top-four clubs in the regular season, with each club playing each other twice. The team finishing in 18th place is relegated directly. Patrick Goots
Patrick Goots (born 10 April 1966) is a Belgian former professional footballer who played as a striker. Club career Goots was in the late 1980s, 90s and the beginning of the next decade, one of the best strikers in Belgium. At the level of the first division of the Belgian Pro League he scored a total of 156 goals. He was also remembered for his Ponytail hairstyle. His nickname was "Patje Bats Bats". He played at the highest level in Belgium until the age of 38 and in his last season in the Belgian Pro League he was the top scorer for Antwerp with eight goals. In the 2002–03 season, he scored two goals against Anderlecht in a 2–1 win. Despite his goal-scoring ability, he never played for the Belgium national team. In January 2009, Goots signed with fourth-tier side Thes Sport. In March 2009, due to a serious knee injury he was forced to retire and decided to start coaching-career. Michel Ngonge
Félix-Michel Ngonge (born 17 August 1967) is a former professional footballer who played as a midfielder or striker. Besides in Belgium, he has played in Turkey, England, and Scotland. Ngonge played international football for Zaire, and later the renamed Democratic Republic of Congo team. Club career Early career Ngonge started his footballing career in Belgium with Racing Jet de Bruxelles, Gent, RFC Seraing, La Louvière and Harelbeke, before moving to Turkish side Samsunspor, and then Watford in June 1998. Watford During his time at Watford he became an integral part of the team scoring 11 goals in 56 games. Marc Wilmots
Marc Robert Wilmots (born 22 February 1969) is a Belgian professional football manager and former player who recently managed the Iran national team and is now active at Raja CA. During his club career as attacking midfielder, he won trophies with KV Mechelen, Standard Liège and Schalke 04. He also represented the Belgium national team. Wilmots has also been a politician, having sat in the Senate for four years for the Mouvement Réformateur party. Club career In his club career, which started in 1987, Wilmots played for Sint-Truiden, Mechelen, Standard Liège, Schalke 04, and Bordeaux. At Schalke, he helped them to the 1997 UEFA Cup Final. His goal in the first leg was cancelled out by Internazionale in the second leg, but Schalke went on to win the game on penalties, with Wilmots scoring the decisive goal. John Bosman
Johannes "John" Jacobus Bosman (born 1 February 1965) is a Dutch former professional footballer who played as a striker. A prolific goalscorer for both club and country, he played professionally for 19 years, most notably with Ajax (five seasons) and Anderlecht (five), surpassing the 100-goal mark with both clubs and winning a total of eight major titles combined. Nicknamed ''Bossie'', Bosman represented Netherlands at the 1994 World Cup and Euro 1988, helping the national team win the latter tournament. Gilles De Bilde
Gilles De Bilde (born 9 June 1971) is a retired Belgian footballer who played as a striker. He played club football for Eendracht Aalst, Anderlecht, PSV, Sheffield Wednesday, Aston Villa, Lierse and Willebroek-Meerhof. He was capped by Belgium at international level. Club career At Eendracht Aalst, he won the 1994 Belgian Player of the Year and scored 21 goals in 33 league games during the 1994–95 season. He joined Anderlecht in the summer of 1995 and managed a further 22 goals in 46 Belgian First Division matches. In a match between Anderlecht and Aalst in December 1996, he punched Krist Porte in the face, which broke his nose and injured his eye. Mario Stanić
Mario Stanić (born 10 April 1972) is a former Croatian footballer. Being a versatile offensive player, he was no stranger to any forward or attacking midfield position, and was even deployed as a wing-back in the national team. Club career Stanić started his career with Željezničar Sarajevo. He was considered to be one of the most talented young players in former Yugoslavia. In 1992, war began and Stanić escaped to Slavonski Brod wading the Sava and moved to Croatia, where he played for Croatia Zagreb.
