1995 Wales Rugby Union Tour
The 1995 Wales rugby union tour was a series of matches played in August and September 1995 in South Africa by the Wales national team. The tour consisted of two matches; a warm-up game against the South-East Transvaal provincial side, and a test match against the South African national team. The tour was held in part to thank South Africa for supporting Wales' bid to host the 1999 Rugby World Cup. Wales named a squad of 24 players for the tour, including five uncapped players. Ten of the squad had not been included in the Wales team that participated in the 1995 Rugby World Cup during May and June. Jonathan Humphreys was named the captain, despite only having played for the national team on two previous occasions. Wales' only warm-up game was against South-East Transvaal on 29 August in Witbank. Alec Evans
Alec Evans (born 1939) is an Australian former rugby union footballer and coach. Known as Alex Evans in the United Kingdom, he coached Wales at the 1995 Rugby World Cup. He was assistant coach of Australia on the 1984 Grand Slam tour. Evans was a representative player for Queensland for more than a decade, and the Alec Evans Medal is now awarded annually for the Queensland Premier Rugby player of the year. Playing career Evans played for Queensland over 11 consecutive seasons from 1959 to 1969, including as captain, and in 1973 at the age of 34. Going from Souths first grade into the Queensland line-up in 1959 at age 20, Evans played a total of 62 games for his State. This record was unsurpassed until Queensland started playing teams from outside of Australia on a regular basis. Kobus Wiese
Jakobus Johannes Wiese (born 16 May 1964) is a former South African rugby union player who played at lock for the South Africa national rugby union team between 1993 and 1996. He was a specialist number 2 jumper in the lineout, and rampant in the tight loose and loose.(Sports Deck trading card 1994 issue, card no 08) He is married and has two kids.
