1995 Ontario Tankard
The 1995 Ontario Tankard, (known as the Labatt Tankard for sponsorship reasons) the southern Ontario men's provincial curling championship was held February 7-12 at the Jock Harty Arena in Kingston, Ontario. The winning rink of Ed Werenich, John Kawaja, Pat Perroud and Neil Harrison from the Avonlea Curling Club would go on to represent Ontario at the 1995 Labatt Brier in Halifax, Nova Scotia. In the final, Ed Werenich's rink from the Avonlea Club in Metro Toronto defeated future Olympic gold medallist Russ Howard of Penetanguishene, 9–8, ending Howard's four straight Tankard winning streak. Howard had the advantage early in the game after scoring a four-ender in the fourth to lead 6–2. Team Wereinch rallied by getting two in the fifth, and stole one in the sixth, to trail 6–5. Kingston, Ontario
Kingston is a city in Ontario, Canada. It is located on the north-eastern end of Lake Ontario, at the beginning of the St. Lawrence River and at the mouth of the Cataraqui River (south end of the Rideau Canal). Royal Kingston Curling Club
Royal Kingston Curling Club is a curling club located in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. It was founded in 1820 and is recognized as one of the oldest curling clubs in Canada. The club received royal patronage in 1993. The Royal Kingston Curling Club, or "RKCC", offers a wide variety of social, recreational, and competitive programs to its members. The Club was located on Clergy Street, in central Kingston, close to Queen's University, for nearly a century, opening there in 1923.Moving in 2005, it moved to its current location on Days Road, just north of Front Road, in west-end Kingston, as part of a deal with the university, which was expanding and wanted the land occupied by KCC. Rideau Curling Club
The Rideau Curling Club is a curling facility and organization located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Founded in 1888, the Rideau Curling Club maintains a rivalry with the Ottawa Curling Club. History The original club began operation in November, 1888 as the Rideau Skating and Curling Club. The first facility of the club was the Rideau Skating Rink located on Waller Street, which opened in February 1889. The club's original president was Sandford Fleming, Sir Sandford Fleming, and Governor General Frederick Arthur Stanley, 16th Earl of Derby, Lord Stanley as patron. Fleming, who had been a member of the Ottawa Curling Club started the club because the Ottawa would not serve alcoholic beverages after matches. Rich Moffatt
Richard Moffatt2017 Brier Media Guide: Previous Rosters (born 1959) is a Canadian curler from Ottawa, Ontario. In 1999, he became only the third curler to skip an Ottawa-area team at the Brier. Moffatt began curling in 1973 after quitting ice hockey. As a junior curler, he made it to the playoffs of the 1981 Ontario Junior Curling Championships. He played in his first Ontario men's championship in 1988 throwing third rocks for Rick Bachand. Moffatt skipped his own team for much of his career. In 1999, he finally won the Ontario men's championship, qualifying him for the 1999 Labatt Brier. At the Brier, his rink from the Rideau Curling Club finished with a 6-5 record. Moffatt retired from curling in 2007, but quickly changed his mind and came back to play for Bryan Cochrane. He played with Cochrane until 2012. Wayne Middaugh
Robert Wayne Middaugh (born September 20, 1967) is a Canadian curler. Born in Brampton, Ontario, Middaugh resides in Victoria Harbour, Ontario. He is the only player to have won the Canadian Men's Curling Championship (known as the Brier) at three different positions: skip (1998), third (2012), and second (1993). He was inducted into the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame in 2020. He currently coaches the Anna Hasselborg rink from Sweden. Career Middaugh is a three-time world champion, once as second for Russ Howard in 1993, as a skip in 1998, and as third for Glenn Howard in 2012.
