1995 FINA Short Course World Championships
The 2nd FINA World Swimming Championships (25 m) was an international swimming meet held on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 30 November until 3 December 1995. The meet featured 32 events swum in a short course (25m) pool. Malcolm James Allen (born 29 May 1973) is a former freestyle swimmer who competed for Australia at the 1996 Summer Olympics. He placed 13th in the 400-metre freestyle, and ended up fourth with the men's 4x200-metre freestyle relay team. Scott Andrew Miller (born 21 February 1975) is an Australian convicted drug dealer and former butterfly swimmer who competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics, winning a silver and bronze medal. Career Early years Coached by Barry Prime, the Manly-born swimmer emerged onto the international scene as a 19-year-old at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, British Columbia, where he won the 100 m butterfly and the 4×100 m medley relay. In 1995, he became the World Short Course champion in the 200 m butterfly, and established himself as a contender for the 1996 Olympics. While competing at the Pan Pacific Championships in Atlanta that year, he was jailed for a night after intervening in a fight outside a nightclub. Mark Warnecke (born 15 February 1970 in Bochum, North Rhine-Westphalia) is a German former breaststroke swimmer who, at age 35, won the world title in the 50 m breaststroke at the 2005 World Aquatics Championships in Montreal. That made him the oldest swimming world champion since 1971. He started for the German swimming club SG Essen. Christopher Renaud (born 29 August 1976) is a former backstroke swimmer from Canada, who competed in two consecutive Summer Olympics for his native country, starting in 1996. His highlights include setting a world record in the short course 50-metre backstroke in 1997, and won several Canadian titles. He is an alumnus of Bishop Carroll High School.
