1995 Amway Classic
The 1995 Amway Classic was a women's tennis tournament played on Hardcourt, outdoor hard courts at the ASB Tennis Centre in Auckland, New Zealand that was part of WTA Tier IV tournaments, Tier IV of the 1995 WTA Tour. It was the 10th edition of the tournament and was held from 30 January until 5 February 1995. Unseeded Nicole Bradtke, who entered on a wildcard, won the singles title and earned $17,5000 first-prize money. Finals Singles Nicole Bradtke defeated Ginger Helgeson, Ginger Helgeson-Nielsen 3–6, 6–2, 6–1 * It was Bradtke's only title of the year and the 11th of her career. Doubles Jill Hetherington / Elna Reinach defeated Laura Golarsa / Caroline Vis 7–6, 6–2 * It was Hetherington's 1st title of the year and the 14th of her career. WTA Tier IV Tournaments
The WTA Tier IV tournaments were Women's Tennis Association fourth-level tournaments held from 1990 until the end of the 2008 season. The line-up of events varied over the years, with tournaments being promoted, demoted or cancelled. Some of the tournaments became Tier V events between 1990 and 1992, and later from 2001 to 2005, before being integrated back into Tier IV. Ginger Helgeson
Ginger Helgeson (born September 14, 1968) is a former American professional tennis player, who is considered to be perhaps the greatest player ever to come out of Minnesota. She reached her highest singles ranking on January 2, 1995, when she became the No. 29 in the world. In doubles, she reached No. 38 in the same year, on January 9. Tennis career Helgeson-Nielsen was born in St. Cloud, Minnesota, before moving to Edina after seventh grade. She was coached by her brother, Brace, throughout juniors and high school. She attended Edina High School and became a three-time consecutive Minnesota state singles champion, and was ranked No. 1 by the USTA Northern at all levels. Helgeson-Nielsen then received a scholarship to attend Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. Whilst there, she was a four-year letter winner and a three-time All American, and holds the all-time best career winning percentage.
