1994–95 WHL Season
The 1994–95 WHL season was the 29th season for the Western Hockey League. Sixteen teams completed a 72-game season. The Kamloops Blazers won their third President's Cup in four seasons, as well as their third Memorial Cup in four seasons. Western Hockey League
The Western Hockey League (WHL) is a major junior ice hockey league based in Western Canada and the Northwestern United States. The WHL is one of three leagues that constitutes the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) as the highest level of junior hockey in Canada. Teams play for the Ed Chynoweth Cup, with the winner moving on to play for the Memorial Cup, Canada's national junior championship. WHL teams have won the Memorial Cup 19 times since the league became eligible to compete for the trophy. Many players have been drafted from WHL teams, and have found success at various levels of professional hockey, including the National Hockey League (NHL). Seattle Thunderbirds
The Seattle Thunderbirds are a major junior ice hockey team based in the city of Kent, Washington, south of Seattle. They are part of the U.S. Division of the Western Conference in the Western Hockey League. They play their games at home in accesso ShoWare Center. History The team was founded in 1971 as the Vancouver Nats of the Western Canada Hockey League (WCHL) but moved to Kamloops, British Columbia, to become the Kamloops Chiefs in 1973. In 1977 the team moved to Seattle and was renamed the Seattle Breakers. The Breakers played in the Seattle Center Ice Arena, which had a seating capacity of 4,141 for ice hockey. Chris Herperger
Christopher Herperger (born February 24, 1974) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League for the Chicago Blackhawks, Ottawa Senators, and Atlanta Thrashers between 1999 and 2003. Following that he spent several years playing in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga, the top league in Germany, retiring in 2013. Playing career Herperger was drafted 223rd overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft. He played in the National Hockey League for the Chicago Blackhawks, Ottawa Senators and the Atlanta Thrashers. He played 169 regular season games in total, scoring 18 goals, making 25 assists, and collecting 75 penalty minutes. Mark Deyell
Mark Kenneth Deyell (born March 26, 1976) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre who was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League (NHL). As of 2020, Deyell ranks 4th in the Saskatoon Blades all-time leaders in points and 80th in the Western Hockey League all-time leaders in assists. He led the Western Hockey League with 159 points in its 1995–96 season, earning the Bob Clarke Trophy; since then, no other player has surpassed this single-season performance. Playing career Deyell played major junior hockey with the Saskatoon Blades of the Western Hockey League. While playing with the Saskatoon Blades, Deyell was selected with the 126th overall pick in the 1994 NHL entry draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs. Curtis Brown (ice Hockey)
Curtis Dean Brown (born February 12, 1976) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. He was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the second round (43rd overall) of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft. Over his National Hockey League (NHL) career, he played for the Sabres, San Jose Sharks, and Chicago Blackhawks. Brown serves as a Sharks pregame and postgame analyst on NBC Sports California. Hnat A. Domenichelli (born February 16, 1976) is a Canadian-Swiss former professional ice hockey player of Ukrainian descent. He was drafted by the Hartford Whalers in the fourth round, 83rd overall, of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft. He played 267 National Hockey League (NHL) games for the Whalers, Calgary Flames, Atlanta Thrashers and Minnesota Wild between 1996 and 2003 before moving to Switzerland where he has played for the remainder of his career in the National League A. Marty Murray (born February 16, 1975) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre who played eight seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Calgary Flames, Philadelphia Flyers, Carolina Hurricanes and Los Angeles Kings. He is currently the general manager of the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings, and was formerly the general manager and head coach of the Sioux Falls Stampede. Darcy Tucker
Darcy Tucker (born March 15, 1975) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. He played most of his National Hockey League (NHL) career with the Toronto Maple Leafs. A sixth round draft choice, Tucker began his NHL career with the Montreal Canadiens. Throughout his NHL career he also played for the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Colorado Avalanche. Tucker was born in Castor, Alberta, but grew up in Endiang, Alberta. Tucker is of Métis descent. Daymond Langkow
Daymond Randolph Langkow (born September 27, 1976) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre. He was the fifth overall selection of the Tampa Bay Lightning at the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. He played junior hockey with the Tri-City Americans in the Western Hockey League (WHL) and is their franchise record holder for career goals at 159. He won the Bob Clarke Trophy in 1995 as the WHL scoring leader with 140 points, and competed with the Canadian junior team at the 1996 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships where he won a gold medal.
