1994 Southern Conference Baseball Tournament
The 1994 Southern Conference Baseball Tournament was held at College Park in Charleston, SC from April 28 through May 1. Fifth seeded The Citadel won the tournament and earned the Southern Conference's automatic bid to the 1994 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament. It was the Bulldogs second tournament win and first under coach Fred Jordan. The tournament used a double-elimination format. Only the top eight teams participate, so Furman was not in the field. Double-elimination Tournament
A double-elimination tournament is a type of elimination tournament competition in which a participant ceases to be eligible to win the tournament's championship upon having lost ''two'' games or matches. It stands in contrast to a single-elimination tournament, in which only ''one'' defeat results in elimination. One method of arranging a double-elimination tournament is to break the competitors into two sets of brackets, the ''winners' bracket'' and ''losers' bracket'' (''W'' and ''L'' brackets for short; also referred to as ''championship bracket'' and ''elimination bracket'', ''upper bracket'' and ''lower bracket'', or ''main bracket'' and ''repechage'') after the first round. Fred Jordan (baseball)
Fred Jordan (born ) is an American college baseball coach, who was the 26th Head Coach of The Citadel Bulldogs baseball team, located in Charleston, South Carolina, he held that position from 1992–2017. Jordan is a 1979 graduate of The Citadel. His career coaching record at The Citadel was 831 wins and 706 losses; he is the winningest coach in Citadel and Southern Conference history as well as 5th at The Citadel in winning percentage. Under Jordan, The Citadel appeared in 7 NCAA Regionals, won 7 Southern Conference baseball tournament championships and claimed 5 SoCon regular season championships. Jordan coached 35 players that were selected in the Major League Baseball Draft. The Citadel Bulldogs Baseball
The Citadel Bulldogs baseball team represents The Citadel in college baseball. They are classified as NCAA Division I and play in the Southern Conference. The Bulldogs are led by Tony Skole, who will lead his first season in 2018. They made their one appearance in the College World Series in 1990. They are the first and through 2022 only military school to appear in the College World Series. The Citadel has claimed eight Southern Conference baseball tournament titles and produced seven major league players. Facilities The Bulldogs play their games at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park located just outside The Citadel campus in Charleston, SC. The Southern Conference baseball tournament is the conference championship tournament in baseball for the Southern Conference. The winner of the tournament receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I baseball tournament. College Park (Charleston)
College Park is a stadium in Charleston, South Carolina. It was primarily used for baseball and was the home of Charleston RiverDogs. It is currently used by the Citadel Bulldogs baseball team for practice. The ballpark has a capacity of 4,000 people and opened in 1940. The grandstand is constructed of metal bleachers and is largely covered by a roof. The first few rows of seats between the dugouts are situated below ground level, giving fans the rare perspective seen from dugout level. History The site has been used as an athletic field since at least 1907, when the northeast section of Hampton Park was leased by the City of Charleston to the College of Charleston for baseball. Southern Conference
The Southern Conference (SoCon) is a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I. 1994 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament
The 1994 NCAA Division I baseball tournament was played at the end of the 1994 NCAA Division I baseball season to determine the national champion of college baseball. The tournament concluded with eight teams competing in the College World Series, a double-elimination tournament in its forty eighth year. Eight regional competitions were held to determine the participants in the final event. Each region was composed of six teams, resulting in 48 teams participating in the tournament at the conclusion of their regular season, and in some cases, after a conference tournament. Britt Reames
Britt William Reames (born August 19, 1973) is a former Major League Baseball pitcher. He pitched parts of six seasons in the major leagues, between and , for four teams. Amateur career Reames attended Seneca Senior High School in Seneca, South Carolina. He was selected out of high school 46th round of the 1992 Major League Baseball draft by the Texas Rangers, but opted to play college baseball for the Citadel Bulldogs. In 1994, he played collegiate summer baseball in the Cape Cod Baseball League for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox. He was selected 17th round of the 1995 Major League Baseball draft by the St. Louis Cardinals. Professional career A promising minor league prospect early on, Reames had an impressive 1996 season with single-A Peoria, Reames was named St. Louis Cardinals Minor League Pitcher of the Year when finished with 15 wins and a 1.90 ERA.
