1994 Cork North-Central By-election
A by-election was held in the Dáil Éireann Cork North-Central (Dáil constituency), Cork North-Central constituency in Republic of Ireland, Ireland on 10 November 1994. It followed the death of Labour Party (Ireland), Labour Party Teachta Dála (TD) Gerry O'Sullivan on 5 August 1994. The election was won by Cork City Councillor Kathleen Lynch (politician), Kathleen Lynch. It was the second and final time Democratic Left (Ireland), Democratic Left would ever win a by-election. Among the candidates were Seanad Éireann, Senator Billy Kelleher, who would later serve as a TD, Minister of State and Member of the European Parliament, MEP, Colm Burke who would also go on to serve as Senator, TD and MEP, Cork County Councillor Michael Burns and Cork City Councillors Jimmy Homan and Con O'Leary. 1992 Irish General Election
The 1992 Irish general election was held on Wednesday, 25 November, almost three weeks after the dissolution of the Dáil on 5 November. The 27th Dáil assembled at Leinster House on 14 December 1992, but a new Taoiseach was not elected. A new Fianna Fáil–Labour Party coalition government was appointed on 12 January 1993 with Albert Reynolds appointed again as Taoiseach. The general election took place in 41 Dáil constituencies throughout Ireland for 166 seats in Dáil Éireann, under a revision in the Electoral (Amendment) Act 1990. Campaign The general election of 1992 was precipitated by the collapse of the Fianna Fáil–Progressive Democrats coalition government. Allegations of dishonesty at the Beef Tribunal forced Desmond O'Malley and his party to part ways with Albert Reynolds's Fianna Fáil.
