The 1994 Cal Poly Mustangs football team represented California Polytechnic State UniversityThe official name of Cal Poly is California Polytechnic State University. However, it has been more commonly known as either Cal Poly San Luis Obispo or just Cal Poly since 1947. during the 1994 NCAA Division I-AA football season. Cal Poly competed in the American West Conference (AWC). The Mustangs were led by first-year head coach Andre Patterson and played home games at Mustang Stadium in San Luis Obispo, California. They finished the season as champion of the AWC, with a record of seven wins and four losses (7–4, 3–0 AWC). The first Division 1 football conference title in Cal Poly history. Andre Patterson (American Football)
Andre Cornelius Patterson Sr. (born June 12, 1960) is an American football coach who is the defensive line coach for the New York Giants of the National Football League (NFL). He has previously been a defensive line coach for the Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots and Minnesota Vikings. Patterson was the head football coach at California Polytechnic State University from 1994 to 1996. College career Patterson started his college football playing career at Contra Costa College from 1978 to 1980 as a defensive lineman. He then transferred to the Montana Grizzlies football, University of Montana in 1981 before suffering a career-ending knee injury. North Campus Stadium
Devonshire Downs, sometimes informally called The Downs, was a horse racing track and multipurpose event facility in Northridge, California. It was located at the southwest corner of Devonshire Street and Zelzah Avenue, east of Reseda Boulevard. The site is now owned by the California State University, Northridge, which renamed it North Campus, and leased in part to Medtronics MiniMed. In 1943, Helen Dillman and Pete Spears purchased 40 acres for $80,000 with plans to construct a harness racing track, but a wartime construction moratorium temporarily put the project on hold. 1995 San Francisco 49ers Season
The 1995 San Francisco 49ers season was the franchise's 46th season in the National Football League (NFL) and their 50th overall. Fresh from their victory in the Super Bowl the previous season, the 49ers lost cornerback Deion Sanders to Dallas and running back Ricky Watters to Philadelphia. Despite a mediocre 5–4 start, the 49ers went 11–5 and for the fourth straight time, they repeated as NFC West champions. The 49ers finished the season as the league's top scoring offense, averaging 28.6 points per game. They also finished number one in total defense, surrendering just 275 yards per game, along with being the top rushing defense and finishing second in points allowed. However, a stunning 27–17 loss to Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers in the divisional round of the playoffs stripped the 49ers of their title defense and ended their season. Chris Eric Thomas (born July 16, 1971) is a former American football wide receiver in the National Football League. He played for the San Francisco 49ers, the Washington Redskins, the St. Louis Rams, and the Kansas City Chiefs. The 1995 NFL draft was the procedure by which National Football League teams selected amateur college football players. It is officially known as the NFL Annual Player Selection Meeting. The draft was held April 22–23, 1995 at the Paramount Theatre at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York.
