1993 Los Angeles Raiders Season
The 1993 Los Angeles Raiders season was the franchise's 34th season overall, and the franchise's 24th season in the National Football League. The team improved upon its 7–9 record in the previous season and returned to the NFL playoffs after a one-year absence, but lost in the AFC Divisional game to the Buffalo Bills. This was the Raiders’ final playoff appearance in Los Angeles, and would not return to the playoffs until 2000, when the franchise returned to Oakland. Offseason During the offseason the Raiders signed quarterback Jeff Hostetler from the New York Giants to lead the offense. Joe Kelly a former first round pick of the Bengals was signed to fill the middle lineback slot. AFC West
The American Football Conference – Western Division or AFC West is one of the four divisions of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The division comprises the Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, Las Vegas Raiders, and Los Angeles Chargers. The division has sent teams to the Super Bowl eighteen times beginning with Super Bowl I when the Chiefs played the Green Bay Packers. Patrick Bates
Patrick James Bates (born November 27, 1970) is a former safety in the National Football League. He was drafted in the first round of the 1993 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Raiders and later played for the Atlanta Falcons after being traded by the Raiders in exchange for the Falcons' second-round selection in the 1996 NFL Draft. Out of high school, Patrick Bates signed with UCLA, but transferred to Texas A&M in 1991. Soon, Bates would become one of the best players of the A&M's famed "Wrecking Crew" of the early 1990s. In 1993, Bates was a first-round draft pick by the Los Angeles Raiders. Terrance Joseph Robiskie (born November 12, 1954) is a former American football coach and player. He previously served as an assistant coach for the Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans, Atlanta Falcons, Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns, Washington Redskins, Los Angeles Raiders, and Jacksonville Jaguars. Early life and playing career Robiskie was born in New Orleans and was raised in Lucy, Louisiana, a city west of New Orleans. Fred Biletnikoff
Frederick S. Biletnikoff (born February 23, 1943) is a former American football player and coach. He was a wide receiver for the Oakland Raiders in the American Football League (AFL) and National Football League (NFL) for fourteen seasons and later an assistant coach with the team. He retired as an NFL player after the 1978 season, and then played one additional season in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for the Montreal Alouettes in 1980. While he lacked the breakaway speed to be a deep-play threat, Biletnikoff was one of the most sure-handed and consistent receivers of his day, with a propensity for making spectacular catches. Joseph I. Scannella (May 22, 1928 – May 3, 2018) was an American football player and coach of American and Canadian football. Playing career Scannella played quarterback at Lehigh University from 1947 to 1949. Coaching career Scannella began his coaching career as an assistant at Clifton High School in Clifton, New Jersey. His first head coaching job was at Oceanside High School in Oceanside, New York. He was the Sailors head coach from 1955 to 1959 before becoming the ends coach at Cornell University. Tom Walsh (American Football)
Tom Walsh (born April 16, 1949) is a former American football coach. Walsh is best known for his two stints as offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles and Oakland Raiders. Early career Walsh entered coaching in 1978 as the coach of Rubidoux High School in Jurupa Valley, California. In 1979 he moved up to the college ranks as the head coach of United States International before becoming the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach of Murray State in 1980. In 1981 he was brought on as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach of Cincinnati. John Herrera (gridiron Football)
John Herrera is an American football executive who, for much of his career, was a Senior Executive with the Oakland Raiders. Herrera's father owned a Buick dealership in Oakland and knew Raiders owner Al Davis as a business acquaintance. Herrera's father arranged for his son to have an interview and Herrera became a Raiders ballboy starting in 1963 while still in high school. Herrera joined the team full-time in 1967 in the business and public relations departments. Following that, Herrera spent four years working for a record company owned by United Artists as well as a stint working for the Washington Redskins as a scout. In 1976, NFL expansion team Tampa Bay Buccaneers hired Herrera as a scout. While with the Buccaneers organization, Herrera met future NFL executive Tim Ruskell while Ruskell was working at a record store in Tampa. Steve Ortmayer
Conrad Stephen Ortmayer (February 13, 1944 – March 9, 2021) was an American football player, coach, and executive who served as the general manager of the National Football League's San Diego Chargers and St. Louis Rams. Early life and playing career Born in Painesville, Ohio, Ortmayer grew up in Nashville, Tennessee, and Dallas, Texas. He played one season at Vanderbilt University before transferring to the University of La Verne and playing three seasons there. Greg Robinson (running Back)
Greg Robinson (born August 7, 1969) is a former professional American football player who played running back for three seasons for the St. Louis Rams and the Los Angeles Raiders. He was drafted by the Raiders in the eighth round of the 1993 NFL Draft. He led the Raiders in rushing in 1993, gaining 591 yards in 12 games, before suffering a serious knee injury against the Buffalo Bills. He sat out the rest of the 1993 season and all of 1994 before coming back with the Rams. Robinson never fully recovered from his knee injury and retired after the 1998 season. Greg Biekert
Gregory Biekert (born March 14, 1969) is an American football coach and former linebacker. Biekert attended Longs Peak Middle School and Longmont High School in Longmont, Colorado, where he lettered in football. He was a standout linebacker for the Colorado Buffaloes. After college, he was drafted by the then L.A. Raiders in the seventh round of the 1993 NFL Draft and played in 144 games with 123 starts. He led the Raiders in tackles for six seasons, including four straight years (1998–2001). He recovered the Tom Brady incomplete pass that was called because of the disputed and since overturned Tuck rule in the 2001 AFC divisional playoff game against the New England Patriots which Tom Brady admitted might have been a fumble in May of 2022.
