1993 FIVB World Grand Prix
The 1993 FIVB World Grand Prix was the first edition of the women's volleyball tournament, annually arranged by FIVB. It was played by eight countries from 28 May to 30 June 1993. Mireya Luis
Alejandrina Mireya Luis Hernández, often referred to as Mireya (born August 25, 1967 in Camagüey) is a retired Cuban volleyball player. Life At the age of 10 she started playing volleyball. At 16, Mireya joined the Cuban national team for the 1983 Pan-American Games, in which Cuba took first place. She would play with them again in the 1987 Games, and Cuba would again win the tournament. After a brief hiatus due to injury, she resumed play in 1990 at the World Championship in Japan where the Cuban team finished fourth. In 1991 she led the Cuban team to win its first ever World Cup in Mexico . Mireya won her first Olympic gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics, 1992 Games in Barcelona with team mate Regla Bell. She would win a second gold in 1996 Olympic Games, Atlanta in 1996, again playing with the Cuban national team. Yevgeniya Viktorovna Estes (russian: Евге́ния Ви́кторовна Э́стес, born 17 July 1975 in Sverdlovsk), née Artamonova (Артамонова), is a Russian volleyball player who was a member of the national team and one of only two volleyball players (along with Sergey Tetyukhin) that competed consecutively in six Olympic Games and took the silver medals at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, and the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. She also won the Most Beautiful Women Volleyball Player Award, which was held on the occasion of FIVB World Grand Champions Cup 1993 and sponsored by Japanese Monthly Volleyball Magazine. Magaly Carvajal
Magalys Carvajal Rivera (born December 18, 1968) is a Cuban Volleyball Player, World champion and Olympic champion. She led Cuba to Olympic Gold Medals in the 1992 Barcelona and 1996 Atlanta Games. She also helped Cuba to win the World Gold Medal in 1994. She has been called the greatest middle blocker to ever play the sport of women's volleyball, standing at 6' 3" tall. Known for shutting down the greatest hitters in the world. Her vertical jump (11 feet) is rivaled only by teammate Mireya Luis. Her stare is known to intimidate any player at the net, and has been called by many of her peers "the look of death". Ana Paula Rodrigues Connelly Henkel (born 13 February 1972 in Lavras, Minas Gerais) is a retired female volleyball player and journalist from Brazil, who represented her native country at four Summer Olympics: in volleyball in 1992 and 1996, and in beach volleyball in 2004 and 2008.
