1992β93 Calgary Flames Season
The 1992β93 Calgary Flames season was the 13th National Hockey League season in Calgary. The Flames rebounded from their disappointing 1991β92 season, finishing 2nd in the Smythe Division, four points behind the Vancouver Canucks. The Flames met the Los Angeles Kings in the Smythe Division semi-finals. The series was an offensive showdown, with the Flames setting team records for most goals scored in a six-game series (28) and most goals against (33). The Flames once again failed to win a playoff series, falling in six games. Two Flames represented the Campbell Conference at the 1993 All-Star Game: Forward Gary Roberts and goaltender Mike Vernon. Western Conference (NHL)
The Western Conference (french: ConfΓ©rence de l'Ouest) is one of two conferences in the National Hockey League (NHL) used to divide teams. Its counterpart is the Eastern Conference. History Originally named the Clarence Campbell Conference (or Campbell Conference for short), it was created in 1974 when the NHL realigned its teams into two conferences and four divisions. Because the new conferences and divisions had little to do with North American geography, geographical references were removed. The conferences and divisions were re-aligned in 1981 to better reflect the geographical locations of the teams, but the existing names were retained with the Campbell Conference becoming the conference for the NHL's westernmost teams. Minnesota North Stars
The Minnesota North Stars were a professional ice hockey team in the National Hockey League (NHL) for 26 seasons, from 1967 to 1993. The North Stars played their home games at the Met Center in Bloomington, Minnesota, and the team's colors for most of its history were green, yellow, gold and white. Tim Hunter (ice Hockey)
Timothy Robert Hunter (born September 10, 1960) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player, and head coach most recently the head coach of the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League (WHL), having previously served as an assistant coach in the National Hockey League (NHL), most recently for the Washington Capitals. Chosen in the 3rd round of the 1979 NHL Entry Draft (#54 overall) by the Atlanta Flames, Hunter went on to a 16-season playing career with the Calgary Flames, Quebec Nordiques, Vancouver Canucks, and San Jose Sharks. Chris Lindberg
Christopher Lawrence Lindberg (born April 16, 1967) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. Lindberg was a member of the Canadian 1992 Winter Olympics ice hockey team, winning a silver medal. He would also play professionally in the National Hockey League with the Calgary Flames and the Quebec Nordiques. He was claimed by the Ottawa Senators in the 1992 NHL Expansion Draft from Calgary, however just two days later, Lindberg was traded back to the Flames for Mark Osiecki. 1992 NHL Expansion Draft
The 1992 NHL Expansion Draft was an expansion draft held by the National Hockey League (NHL) to fill the rosters of the league's two expansion teams for the 1992β93 season, the Ottawa Senators and the Tampa Bay Lightning. The draft was held on June 18, 1992, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Rules 21 of the 22 franchises in the league at the time of the draft were allowed to protect two goaltenders and fourteen position players (the San Jose Sharks were the only team exempt from protection restrictions as they were an expansion team the previous season). Beyond that, every team had to make available at least one goaltender who had played at least one NHL game. This clause (known to the league teams far in advance) led to several trades so that teams could fulfill the requirement without exposing their lead goaltenders.
