1992–93 Belarusian Cup
The 1992–93 Belarusian Cup was the second season of the annual Belarusian football cup competition. It began on 24 September 1992 with the preliminary round and ended on 22 June 1993 with the final at the Dinamo Stadium in Minsk. FC Dinamo Minsk were the defending champions, having defeated FC Dnepr Mogilev in the 1992 final, but were knocked out in the semifinals by FC Neman Grodno, eventual winners. FC Neman Grodno won the final against FC Vedrich Rechitsa to win their first title. Preliminary round The games were played on 24 and 30 September 1992. Round of 32 The games were played on 7 October 1992. Round of 16 The games were played on 14 October 1992. FC Neman Grodno ( be, ФК Нёман Гродна, ''FK Nyoman Hrodna''; russian: ФК Неман Гродно) is a Belarusian football club from the city of Grodno, named after the Neman River and was founded in 1964. Since 1992, the team has participated in the top league of Belarus. History Since 1964, the team was playing in the third tier of the Soviet football system almost constantly, excluding two seasons (1968 and 1969) spent in the second tier. Since 1992, Neman plays in the Belarusian Premier League. In 1993, they won the Belarusian Cup. Minsk-2 was a Belarusian football club based in Minsk and was a reserve team of FC Minsk. History The team was formed in 1954 as FShM Minsk (''Futbolnaya Shkhola Molodyozhi'', or ''Football School of Youth'') and was essentially a student team. During Soviet years, they spent the most of their seasons playing only in youth competitions, although they also spent several seasons in senior Belarusian SSR league. They adopted name Smena Minsk in 1989. In 1992 Smena joined newly created Belarusian Second League. Penalty Shootout (association Football)
A penalty shoot-out (officially kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method in association football to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as extra time (if used) have expired. In a penalty shoot-out, each team takes turns shooting at goal from the penalty mark, with the goal defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Each team has five shots which must be taken by different kickers; the team that makes more successful kicks is declared the victor. Shoot-outs finish as soon as one team has an insurmountable lead. If scores are level after five pairs of shots, the shootout progresses into additional " sudden-death" rounds. Balls successfully kicked into the goal during a shoot-out do not count as goals for the individual kickers or the team, and are tallied separately from the goals scored during normal play (including extra time, if any).
