Board Game
Board games are tabletop games that typically use . These pieces are moved or placed on a pre-marked board (playing surface) and often include elements of table, card, role-playing, and miniatures games as well. Many board games feature a competition between two or more players. To show a few examples: in checkers (British English name 'draughts'), a player wins by capturing all opposing pieces, while Eurogames often end with a calculation of final scores. '' Pandemic'' is a cooperative game where players all win or lose as a team, and peg solitaire is a puzzle for one person. There are many varieties of board games. Their representation of real-life situations can range from having no inherent theme, such as checkers, to having a specific theme and narrative, such as ''Cluedo''. Rules can range from the very simple, such as in snakes and ladders; to deeply complex, as in ''Advanced Squad Leader''. Play components now often include custom figures or shaped counters, and distin ...

Incursion
''Incursion'' is a science fiction roleplaying game created by Richard Tucholka and published by Tri Tac Games in 1992. Overview The player characters are humans abducted by alien slave traders. Together, with other extraterrestrial slaves, they turn on their captors and kill them during the fight, destroying the vital navigational records. Left with possession of one of the fastest and most powerful spaceships, the Anshani space tug ''Ardanna Nuu'', they do not know how to reach their homeworlds, since they all come from non-spacefaring planets in the backwaters of the galaxy that do not turn up in other spacefarers' logs. ''Incursion'' is technically set in the same universe as '' Bureau 13: Stalking the Night Fantastic'', but places the player characters adrift in a complex society, rife with politics and people after them for their ship. Spiel Des Jahres
The Spiel des Jahres (, ''Game of the Year'') is an award for board and card games, created in 1978 with the purpose of rewarding family-friendly game design, and promoting excellent games in the German market. It is thought that the existence and popularity of the award was one of the major drivers of the quality of games coming out of Germany, particularly in the 1980s and 1990s. A ''Spiel des Jahres'' nomination can increase the typical sales of a game from 500–3,000 copies to around 10,000, and the winner can usually expect to sell as many as 500,000 copies. Award criteria The award is given by a jury of German-speaking board game critics from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, who review games released in Germany in the preceding twelve months. The games considered for the award are family-style games. War games, role-playing games, collectible card games, and other complicated, highly competitive, or hobbyist games are outside the scope of the award. Since 1989, there ...

The Apocalypse
Apocalypse () is a literary genre in which a supernatural being reveals cosmic mysteries or the future to a human intermediary. The means of mediation include dreams, visions and heavenly journeys, and they typically feature symbolic imagery drawn from the Hebrew Bible, cosmological and (pessimistic) historical surveys, the division of time into periods, esoteric numerology, and claims of ecstasy and inspiration. Almost all are written under pseudonyms (false names), claiming as author a venerated hero from previous centuries, as with Book of Daniel, composed during the 2nd century BCE but bearing the name of the legendary Daniel. Eschatology, from Greek ''eschatos'', last, concerns expectations of the end of the present age, and apocalyptic eschatology is the application of the apocalyptic world-view to the end of the world, when God will punish the wicked and reward the faithful. An apocalypse will often contain much eschatological material, but need not: the baptism ...

SPQR (board Game)
''SPQR'' is a board wargame designed by Richard Berg and Mark Herman, and released in 1992 by GMT Games, as part of the ''Great Battles of History'' (''GBoH'') series of games on ancient warfare. ''SPQR'' deals with battles fought by the Roman Republic, and is designed to showcase the strengths and weaknesses of the Roman manipular legion. There are two editions of the game, the second having changes in some rules. Scenarios The game includes five historical scenarios, Cannae, Zama, Cynoscephalae, Beneventum and Bagradas Plains, plus a fantasy scenario pitting Rome against Alexander the Great. Scale The game maps are covered with a hexagonal grid, each hex representing 70 yards of distance. Each turn represents about 15–20 minutes, although the rules are designed assuming a loose time scale. Each counter represents 300 to 1000 fighting troops, depending on size and type. Spectrangle
''Spectrangle'' is a triangular tile-based abstract strategy game Abstract strategy games admit a number of definitions which distinguish these from strategy games in general, mostly involving no or minimal narrative theme, outcomes determined only by player choice (with no randomness), and perfect information. ... invented by Alan John Fraser-Dackers, Maxwell Graham Gordon and Lester Wynne Jordan. The principles behind the game are based on the work of British mathematician Percy Alexander MacMahon. The original game was for up to 8 players and used 60 tiles. A later more compact version for up to four players uses 36 tiles. It is this version that is described here. The game uses colourful double-sided triangular playing tiles called ''trangs''. The trangs use all the permutations of red, yellow, green, cyan and magenta to give 35 unique trangs, plus one all-white 'joker'. Each trang is marked with a number that is the basic scoring value of that tile. The trangs are played ...

Outrage! (game)
''Outrage!'', "the official Tower of London board game", was first created in 1992 by Imperial Games. Players move about the board, which depicts the Tower of London, and attempt to steal the British Crown Jewels. In reality, the only modern attempt to steal the Jewels was made in 1671 by Thomas Blood and his accomplices, who failed to escape — an earlier attempt in the early fourteenth century was equally unsuccessful — and the game challenges players to "succeed where they failed". Rules The game may be played in either a short or long version. In the former, the first player to successfully ''escape'' with (not just steal) any one of the Crown Jewels wins; in the latter, whichever player has the greatest total value of crown jewels (as denoted on the board) after they have all been stolen is the winner. The player with St. Edward's Crown wins if there is a tie. Preliminary All cards are shuffled; six Tower Cards are dealt to each player; one coin per player is pl ...

Over The Edge (game)
''Over the Edge'' is a surreal role-playing game of secrets and conspiracies, taking place on the mysterious Island of Al Amarja. It was created by Jonathan Tweet with Robin Laws, and published by Atlas Games. ''Over The Edge'' departed from the model of predefined character attributes and skills, in favour of player-chosen traits; and was among the first to be based on the dice pool, where the number of dice rolled, rather than how they are interpreted, is determined by the characters' abilities. Both ''Over the Edge'' and '' Vampire: The Masquerade'' were based upon a project between Jonathan Tweet and Mark Rein·Hagen which followed their development of '' Ars Magica'' for Lion Rampant. They share the concept of a dice pool, which they presumably inherit from that initial design. This game mechanic had previously been seen in West End Games' '' Ghostbusters'' and ''Star Wars,'' and FASA's Shadowrun roleplaying games. While ''Vampire'' has achieved far more p ...

Empire Builder (board Game)
''Empire Builder'' is a railroad board game originally published by Mayfair Games in 1982 that underwent several editions and eventually branched out into international and fantastical locations. Publication history ''Empire Builder'' was designed by Bill Fawcett and Darwin Bromley and released in 1982 by Mayfair Games. The original game was set in the United States and Canada. This was replaced with a new version that added Mexico. A number of spin-off games have been released, expanding the game's geography to other countries (''British Rails'', ''Eurorails'', ''Australian Rails'', ''Russian Rails,'' etc.) and fantastic landscapes ('' Iron Dragon'', ''Lunar Rails'', ''Martian Rails''). These games are collectively known as "the ''Empire Builder'' series". ''Empire Builder'' games are sometimes called Crayon Rails games because players mark their tracks on the board with wax crayons (or with other types of erasable markers). Description All of the ''Empire Builder'' games op ...
