1992 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships
The 1992 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships (''1992 WJHC'') was the 16th edition of the Ice Hockey World Junior Championship and was held from December 26, 1991, until January 4, 1992. It was held in Füssen and Kaufbeuren, Germany. The Commonwealth of Independent States won gold, while Sweden won silver, and the United States took home the bronze medal. Final standings The 1992 tournament was a round-robin format, with the top three teams winning gold, silver and bronze medals respectively. The day the tournament began, the Soviet Union formally dissolved. In the week that followed the team continued to play as the Soviet Union, but on January 1, 1992, the team was renamed the Commonwealth of Independent States. However, three players on the team, Sergejs Žoltoks and Sandis Ozoliņš (from Latvia) and Darius Kasparaitis (from Lithuania) were from nations not part of the Commonwealth. Michael Nylander
Michael Gunnar Nylander (born 3 October 1972) is a Swedish former professional ice hockey centre and current assistant coach with the Mississauga Steelheads in the Ontario Hockey League. He competed for the Swedish national team in the 1998 Winter Olympics and the 2002 Winter Olympics. Playing career Nylander was drafted by the Hartford Whalers in the third round (59th overall) in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. Scott Niedermayer
Scott Niedermayer (born August 31, 1973) is a Canadian former ice hockey defenceman and current special assignment coach of the Anaheim Ducks. He played 18 seasons and over 1,000 games in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the New Jersey Devils and Anaheim Ducks. Niedermayer is a four-time Stanley Cup champion and played in five NHL All-Star Games. He won the James Norris Memorial Trophy in 2003–04 as the NHL's top defenceman and the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2007 as the most valuable player of the playoffs. Michael Francis Dunham (born June 1, 1972) is an American former professional ice hockey goaltender. Dunham is the Boston Bruins goalie development coach, and the former head goaltending coach for the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League (NHL). Playing career Dunham attended Canterbury School in New Milford, Connecticut, a Catholic boarding school, where he was an All-New England 1st Team Goalie under legendary prep school coach Charlie Huntington. Róbert Petrovický (; born 26 October 1973) is a Slovak former professional ice hockey right winger. He played in the NHL for the Hartford Whalers, Dallas Stars, St. Louis Blues, Tampa Bay Lightning and the New York Islanders. Jarkko Varvio (April 28, 1972) is a Finnish former ice hockey player who had a very brief stint in the NHL. Varvio was drafted by Minnesota North Stars in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft. He was the top scorer at the 1992 Men's World Ice Hockey Championships in Czechoslovakia. However, his only two active seasons in the NHL were in 1993-94 and 1994-95 with the Dallas Stars. Jan Čaloun (born December 20, 1972) is a Czech former professional hockey player. He is 180 cm (5'11") tall, 80 kg (176 lb) in weight. He shoots right and plays right wing. He was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the fourth round, 75th overall in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft. Eric Bryan Lindros (; born February 28, 1973) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. Lindros was born in London, Ontario, but grew up in Toronto. He played junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) for the Oshawa Generals prior to being chosen first overall in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft by the Quebec Nordiques. He refused to play for the Nordiques and was eventually traded to the Philadelphia Flyers in June 1992 in exchange for a package of players and draft picks including Peter Forsberg.
