The 1992 United States Open Cup was the 79th edition of the soccer tournament to crown the national champion of the United States. The San Jose Oaks are a semi-professional soccer club from San Jose, California with affiliations to the California Soccer Association and the USSF. History The Oaks were founded in 1974 as an amateur side. The team has participated in the California International Soccer League and the Peninsula Soccer League. Fairfax Spartans
The Washington Stars were an American soccer team established in 1987 as F.C. Washington. The team entered the American Soccer League in 1988 under the name Washington Stars and merged with the Maryland Bays in 1990. History Founded in the spring of 1987 as F.C. Washington, the team grew out of the Fairfax Spartans which won the 1986 National Amateur Cup. The team, headed by president Gordon Bradley and located in Fairfax, Virginia, hired John Kerr, Sr. as head coach on June 24, 1987. Coach Bradley was the coach of George Mason University (GMU) at that time. Two of their players, Kent Shiffert and Chris Myers were recruited from GMU. The team played its first game on July 26, 1987 against the Canadian Pan American soccer team. Dave Palic
David Palic is a retired American soccer player who played professionally in the Western Soccer Alliance and American Professional Soccer League. High School Palic graduated from La Salle High School where he played from 1982 - 1985. In 1985 he was awarded the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) 1-A Division Player of the Year. While playing for the Lancers he won two CIF SS 1-A Championships in 1983 and 1984. Palic is a member of the La Salle HS Athletic Hall of Fame. College Palic graduated from Santa Clara University, playing on the men's soccer team from 1985 to 1988. He was a 1988 Second Team NCAA All American. He was an All West Coast Conference (WCC) selection in 1986 and 1988. He is 2nd on the all time SCU men's soccer career assist list, with 34 assists. John Hughes (soccer, Born 1965)
Richard John Hughes (born July 3, 1965) is a former professional soccer player. Born in Swansea, Wales, he moved to Victoria, British Columbia, Canada in 1971. He played for Cadboro Bay, which later became Bays United Soccer Club. He attended Mount Douglas Secondary School, where he played on a soccer team with Jeff Mallett and Simon Keith. Hughes represented Canada at the 1982 CONCACAF Youth Tournament in Guatemala and won his first cap with Canada's senior team on 27 August 1986 at the Merlion Cup in Singapore. He played for the University of Victoria Vikings and was part of the 1987 national winning side. Lone Star Soccer Alliance was a soccer league that existed from 1987 to 1992. While most of the teams came from Texas, some also came from Oklahoma and Kansas. United Soccer League (USL), formerly known as United Soccer Leagues, is a soccer league in the United States and Canada. It organizes several men's and women's leagues, both professional and amateur. Bavarian United SC is an American soccer team based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States. Bavarian Majors of the Bavarian Soccer Club compete in the United Premier Soccer League. United German-Hungarians is an American social club, founded in 1910, as the Banater Männerchor. Although the club has been home to various auxiliary groups, the primary activities of the club remain soccer and cultural dancing. The first team was started in 1922, playing exhibition games only. The current German Hungarian Cultural Group was founded in 1965. Representation Nomenclature The original name of the organization, the Banater Männerchor, comes from the Hungarian birthplace (Banat) of the founders and many later members. The meaning of the current nomenclature, The United German Hungarians, refers to the fact that Banat Swabians were Germans living in Hungary, and not a union of 'Germans' and 'Hungarians.'
