Dennis Franchione
Dennis Wayne Franchione (born March 28, 1951), also known as Coach Fran, is a retired American football coach. He is the former head football coach at Texas State University, a position he held from 1990 to 1991, when the school was known as Southwest Texas State University, and resumed from 2011 to 2015. Franchione has also served as the head football coach at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas (1981–1982), Pittsburg State University (1985–1989), the University of New Mexico (1992–1997), Texas Christian University (1998–2000), the University of Alabama (2001–2002), and Texas A&M University (2003–2007). In his 27 seasons as a head coach in college football, Franchione won eight conference championships and one divisional crown. Personal life Franchione was born in Girard, Kansas. Matt Simon (born December 6, 1953) is an American football coach and former player. He is currently a Defensive and Special Teams Analyst with the University of Maryland Terrapins. Prior to arriving at UMD, Simon was the offensive coordinator for the Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens football program,from 2017 to 2019. Simon has previously coached in the collegiate ranks,most notably as head coach at the University of North Texas from 1994 to 1997. Simon is one of only ten football coaches to win both an NCAA Division I-A/FBS national championship (with Washington in 1991) and a Super Bowl (with the Baltimore Ravens in 2000). The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) is an NCAA Division I conference. The WAC covers a broad expanse of the western United States with member institutions located in Arizona, California, New Mexico, Utah, Washington (state), Washington, and Texas. The 1992 NCAA Division I-A football season was the first year of the Bowl Coalition and concluded with Alabama's first national championship in thirteen years—their first since the departure of Bear Bryant. One of Bryant's former players, Gene Stallings, was the head coach, and he used a style similar to Bryant's, a smashmouth running game combined with a tough defense. New Mexico Lobos Football Seasons
This is a list of New Mexico Lobos football seasons. The Lobos are part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). Since their inception in 1892, the Lobos have played in over 1,100 games in over a century of play, including 13 bowl games, with interruptions occurring in 1895–1898, 1900 and 1902. They are a charter member of the Mountain West Conference (MWC), which they have been a part of since 1999. Prior to the Lobos joining the conference, they were a member of the Border Conference from 1931 to 1951, the Mountain States Conference (also known as the Skyline Conference) from 1952 to 1961, and the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) from 1962 to 1998.
