The 1992 Holiday Bowl was a college football bowl game played December 30, 1992, in San Diego, California. It was part of the 1992 NCAA Division I-A football season. It featured the unranked Illinois Fighting Illini, and the 25th ranked Hawaii Rainbow Warriors. Background Hawaii was co-champion of the Western Athletic Conference (along with Fresno State and BYU), their first ever conference championship. Big Ten Conference

1992 NCAA Division I-A Football Season
The 1992 NCAA Division I-A football season was the first year of the Bowl Coalition and concluded with Alabama's first national championship in thirteen years—their first since the departure of Bear Bryant. One of Bryant's former players, Gene Stallings, was the head coach, and he used a style similar to Bryant's, a smashmouth running game combined with a tough defense. The top-tier games of the Bowl Coalition were the Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl, Cotton Bowl Classic, and Fiesta Bowl. Holiday Bowl
The Holiday Bowl is a post-season NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision college football bowl game that has been played in San Diego since 1978. San Diego County Credit Union has been the game's title sponsor since 2017, and the bowl has been officially known as the San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl. Past editions of the bowl were played at San Diego Stadium. Future editions are planned to be played at Petco Park in San Diego, under a five-year arrangement reached in 2021. Petco Park, the baseball park of the San Diego Padres, will be reconfigured to accommodate a football field. San Diego Stadium was demolished beginning in the autumn of 2020. Jason A. Verduzco (born April 3, 1970) is a former American football quarterback who played one season with the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League. He played college football at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. Early years Verduzco played high school football at Antioch High School in Antioch, California.
