Gigi Fernández and Jana Novotná were the defending champions, but participated with different partners in this tournament. Novotná played alongside Larisa Neiland, and lost in the semifinals to Conchita Martínez and Arantxa Sánchez Vicario. Gigi Fernández played alongside Natasha Zvereva, and successfully defended the title, defeating Martínez and Sánchez Vicario in the final 6–3, 6–2. This was Fernández and Zvereva's first Grand Slam Doubles title as partners; they would go on to win 14 Grand Slam titles, completing the Career Grand Slam together. Gigi Fernández
Beatriz "Gigi" Fernández (born February 22, 1964) is a Puerto Rican former professional tennis player. Fernández won 17 major doubles titles and two Olympic gold medals representing the United States, and reached the world No. 1 ranking in doubles. She reached a career-high singles ranking of world No. 17 in 1991. Since retiring from the professional tour in 1997 at the age of 33, Fernández has been a tennis coach and entrepreneur. She now shares her knowledge of doubles with tennis enthusiasts throughout the US by conducting Master Doubles with Gigi Clinics and Doubles Boot Camps. Claudia Kohde-Kilsch
Claudia Kohde-Kilsch (''née'' Kohde; born 11 December 1963) is a former German tennis player and member of the Die Linke. During her tennis career, she won two women's doubles Grand Slam titles. She also won eight singles titles and a total of 25 doubles titles. Personal life Kohde-Kilsch was born Claudia Kohde in Saarbrücken, but added the hyphenated "-Kilsch" to her name which came from her adoptive father Jürgen Kilsch, an attorney. Barbara Rittner (born 25 April 1973) is a German former professional tennis player. She currently is the captain of the German Fed Cup team. Her career-high singles ranking was No. 24 in the world, achieved on 1 February 1993. As a junior, she won the 1991 Wimbledon Championships. She won her first WTA Tour title in 1992, and almost nine years later, she won her second at the Belgian Open in Antwerp. Katerina Georgieva Maleeva ( bg, Катерина Георгиева Малеева; born 7 May 1969) is a former top 10 Bulgarian tennis player. She won eleven singles and two doubles WTA Tour titles. Her best position in the WTA rankings was No. 6 in 1990. Biography Born in Sofia, Maleeva is the second oldest of the three children of Georgi Maleev and Yuliya Berberyan. Her mother came from an Armenian family, which found refuge in Bulgaria after the 1896 Armenian massacres in the Ottoman Empire, and was the best Bulgarian tennis player in the 1960s. After she retired from professional tennis in the 1970s, Berberyan started a coaching career. Patricia Tarabini (born 6 August 1968) is a former tennis player from Argentina. She represented her country and won the bronze medal at the 2004 Athens Olympic games, with Paola Suárez, where they lost 7–9 in the third set to eventual gold medalists from China, Sun Tiantian and Li Ting. Mary Pierce
Mary Caroline Pierce (born 15 January 1975) is a retired tennis professional who represented France internationally in team competitions and the Olympics. She was born in Canada to an American father and a French mother, and holds citizenship of all three countries. Nathalie Tauziat (born 17 October 1967) is a French former professional tennis player. Sabine Appelmans (born 22 April 1972) is a former professional tennis player from Belgium. She was Belgium's Fed Cup captain from 2007 until 2011. Career Appelmans started playing at the neighbour's court at the age of seven. Her first trainer, Fred Debruyn, saw immediately that she was very talented. Raffaella Reggi (; born 27 November 1965) is a former professional tennis player from Italy. Career As a junior, Reggi won the Orange Bowl 16 and under in 1981. She was a member of the Continental Players Cup Team in 1982. Reggi won the mixed doubles title at the US Open in 1986, partnering Sergio Casal.
