1992 Davis Cup World Group Qualifying Round
The 1992 Davis Cup World Group qualifying round was held from 25 to 27 September. They were the main play-offs of the 1992 Davis Cup. The winners of the playoffs advanced to the 1993 Davis Cup World Group, and the losers were relegated to their respective Zonal Regions I. In response to the Yugoslav Wars and following the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 757 in May 1992, Yugoslavia was barred from competing in international sporting competition. This resulted in the Yugoslav team being disqualified from this and future Davis Cups, and their qualifying round tie against Cuba was defaulted. Cuba therefore qualified for the 1993 Davis Cup World Group. 1992 Davis Cup
The 1992 Davis Cup (also known as the 1992 Davis Cup by NEC for sponsorship purposes) was the 81st edition of the Davis Cup, the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. 93 teams would enter the competition, 16 in the World Group, 21 in the Americas Zone, 23 in the Asia/Oceania Zone, and 33 in the Europe/Africa Zone. Due to the increased number of entries, the tournament was expanded to add a Group III in all zones, with promotion and relegation between it and Group II. Puerto Rico and Qatar made their first appearances in the tournament, and former champions South Africa returned to the tournament for the first time since 1978. The United States defeated Switzerland in the final, held at the Tarrant County Convention Center in Fort Worth, Texas, United States, on 4–6 December, to win their 30th title overall. Thomas Prerovsky
Thomas Prerovsky (born 15 February 1969) is an Austrian former professional tennis player. Tennis career Prerovsky competed on the professional tour in the early 1990s and twice featured in the main draw of the Vienna Open, losing in the first round both times to Thomas Buchmayer. He was a member of the Austria Davis Cup team in 1992. Davis Cup Prerovsky made his Davis Cup debut against Finland in Helsinki and won a dead rubber singles over Pasi Virtanen, with Austria advancing to the World Group qualifiers. In the qualifier against Canada in Vancouver he played his only live match, a singles rubber which he lost to Grant Connell. Grant Connell (Pronounced: KAHN-nell) (born November 17, 1965) is a former professional tennis player from Canada, and has been a real estate agent for the past 14 years in Vancouver. He specializes in West Vancouver North Vancouver and Downtown properties real estate transactions. He is considered one of the world's top doubles player from the early to late -1990s, reaching the world No. 1 doubles ranking in November 1993. Connell won 22 doubles titles during his eleven seasons on the ATP Tour (1986 to 1997). He won his first four with fellow Canadian Glenn Michibata. Gabriel Markus (born 31 March 1970) is a former professional tennis player from Argentina. Career A clay court specialist, Markus was a quarter-finalist in the Boys' Singles event at the 1987 French Open and at his best was ranked second in the Argentine junior rankings. The right-handed player made the fourth round of the US Open in 1991, the furthest he would reach in a Grand Slam. Along the way he defeated Diego Nargiso, Stefano Pescosolido and Jan Siemerink. Kenneth Carlsen
Kenneth Carlsen (born 17 April 1973) is a Danish former professional tennis player, who was active between 1992 and 2007. Carlsen played left-handed with a one-handed backhand. His greatest asset was his powerful serve, and his game was therefore best suited to fast surfaces (grass and hardcourt). For most of his long career, Carlsen was Denmark's best tennis player, and consistently among the few Danish players playing at the highest international level.
