Samuel Gargan
Samuel Gargan (born ) is a former long serving politician and Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories. Gargan was first elected to the Northwest Territories Legislature in the 1983 Northwest Territories general election. He was re-elected to a second term in the 1987 Northwest Territories general election. He would be returned by acclamation to a third term in the 1991 Northwest Territories general election. Kelvin Ng (born November 10, 1958) is a former territorial and municipal level politician in Canada who was elected in both the Nunavut Legislature and Northwest Territories Legislature. Ng began his political career on the municipal level. He has served on municipal council and as Mayor of Cambridge Bay, Nunavut. Ng ran for a seat in the 1995 Northwest Territories general election. He defeated incumbent MLA Ernest Bernhardt to win the Kitikmeot electoral district. Ng served one term in the Northwest Territories Legislature, becoming a cabinet Minister in the government. John Todd is a former territorial level politician and Minister of Finance in the Northwest Territories government. Business Todd is a popular business leader in northern Canada and is popular among the Inuit for using his private development corporation to help Rankin Inlet become a leading centre of commerce in Nunavut. Iqaluit ( ; Inuktitut syllabics: , , ; ) is the capital of the Canadian territory of Nunavut, its largest community, and its only city. It was known as Frobisher Bay from 1942 to 1987, after the large bay on the coast on which the city is situated. The northernmost city in Canada, its traditional Inuktitut name was restored in 1987. In 1999, Iqaluit was designated the capital of Nunavut after the division of the Northwest Territories into two separate territories. Tom Butters (politician)
Thomas H. Butters, (June 1925 – March 2, 2015) was a politician from Northwest Territories, Canada. He had a long career as a Member of the Northwest Territories Legislature from 1970 until 1991. Butters was first elected to the Northwest Territories Legislature in the 1970 Northwest Territories general election. He won the new electoral district of Western Arctic defeating incumbent Duncan Pryde. Due to a significant redistribution of electoral district in 1975, Butters ran for re-election in the 1975 Northwest Territories general election in the new Inuvik electoral district because Western Arctic no longer covered his home in Inuvik. He won re-election in the new riding. Butters was re-elected for a third term in the 1979 Northwest Territories general election. Fred Koe
Fred Koe (born March 8, 1947) is a former territorial level politician and Member of the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest territories from 1991 to 1995. He was born in Aklavik. Koe is the son of Jim Koe, who was the chief of the Aklavik Indian Band. He grew up in Aklavik and would later move to Inuvik. At the age of 11, he was a victim of the Canadian Indian residential school system, and was forced to go school in Inuvik, away from his family. Koe ran for a seat in the Northwest Territories Legislature in the 1991 Northwest Territories general election. He won the Inuvik electoral district defeating future Commissioner Glenna Hansen. Ludy Pudluk
Ludy Pudluk (January 31, 1943 – July 1, 2019) was a Canadian territorial level politician and cabinet minister. A climate change activist, he resided in Resolute, Nunavut. Life Pudluk was born on January 31, 1943, Qaumarjuiton in Navy Board Inlet, near Pond Inlet. In 1958, the family moved to Resolute, Nunavut, at the time part of the Northwest Territories, where he remained. In 2008, he appeared before the Qikiqtani Truth Commission to give testimony about the sled dog killing by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Pudluk was made a member of the Order of Nunavut in 2017. He died July 1, 2019 in Iqaluit.
