The 1991 GP Ouest-France was the 55th edition of the GP Ouest-France cycle race and was held on 20 August 1991. The race started and finished in Plouay. The race was won by Armand de Las Cuevas of the Banesto team. Armand De Las Cuevas
Armand de Las Cuevas (26 June 1968 – 2 August 2018) was a French racing cyclist. He won prestigious races such as the Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré and the Clásica de San Sebastián. A time trial specialist, he won many prologues and individual time trials in the early 1990s. In both the 1992 and 1994 Tour de France he finished in the top 5 of the prologue as well as the other ITT's. He won a stage in the 1994 Giro d'Italia, an ITT, and placed in the top 5 of both other time trials. He also rode strongly enough to come in 9th on general classification. In the 1994 Tour de Romandie he won the prologue and finished 2nd overall. He also competed in track pursuit racing, and was bronze medalist in the discipline at the 1990 UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Japan. De Las Cuevas retired to Réunion in 1999, where he founded a cycling school. He committed suicide there in 2018. Mauro Ribeiro (Curitiba, 19 July 1964) is a Brazilian former professional road bicycle racer. In the 1991 Tour de France, he became the first and only Brazilian cyclist to win a stage in the Tour de France. Bretagne Classic
The Bretagne Classic, also called Bretagne Classic Ouest–France, is an elite cycling classic held annually in late summer around the Breton village of Plouay in western France. The race was originally named Grand–Prix de Plouay and, from 1989 to 2015, GP Ouest–France. It was included in the inaugural UCI ProTour in 2005 and in 2011 in its successor, the UCI World Tour. Since 2016 it is called Bretagne Classic Ouest–France. Since 2002, a women's event, the GP Plouay–Bretagne is organized on Saturday, the day before the men's race. Supporting events have grown over the years and now include BMX races, track racing and a mass-participation ride, as part of a four–day festival in the last summer weekend in Brittany. Søren Lilholt (born 22 September 1965) is a Danish former racing cyclist. He rode in eight Grand Tours between 1987 and 1992 completing five of them. He also competed at the 1984 Summer Olympics. During the 1990 Tour de France he was involved in many breakaway attempts as he placed in the top ten for the overall Combativity award. Marc Madiot
Marc Madiot (born 16 April 1959) is a French former professional road racing cyclist and double winner of Paris–Roubaix. He also competed in the individual road race event at the 1980 Summer Olympics. Retired from racing in 1994, he is now best known as the directeur sportif of , a UCI WorldTeam. He is also known as the president of the French Ligue National de Cyclisme (LNC). In 1987, he made disparaging remarks about the sport of women's cycling, calling it ugly and unesthetic. In 2008, he was made a knight of the French Legion of Honor. It was presented by president Nicolas Sarkozy at the Elysée palace in Paris. He is the older brother of fellow retired racing cyclist and French national road racing champion Yvon Madiot. Denis Roux
Denis Roux (born 5 November 1961 in Montreuil) is a former French cyclist. Roux was professional from 1984 to 1992 and recorded a total of eleven victories including a stage of the Vuelta a España in 1990. He participated in the Tour de France six times. His best result was tenth place in 1988. After he retired, he became a coach at the Canadian and French Cycling Federation and the sports director of Crédit Agricole. He is married to the French skier Sarah Hemery. Patrick Tolhoek
Patrick Tolhoek (born Yerseke, 26 June 1965) is a retired Dutch professional cyclist. Career In 1985, Tolhoek won the national road race for militaries. In 1989 and 1990, Tolhoek rode the Tour de France. During his first years as professional cyclist, he had problems with his left leg. At the end of 1991, he had to stop his professional career because of this. Three years later, after an operation, he was able to ride professionally again, this time on the mountainbike. In 1998, he became Dutch national mountainbike champion. In 2000, Tolhoek entered the Mountainbike event during the Olympic games, but did not finish. At the end of that year, Tolhoek ended his career. Personal life His father Ko Tolhoek was also a professional cyclist. His son Antwan Tolhoek is also a professional cyclist. Andreas Kappes (23 December 1965 – 31 July 2018) was a German cyclist, who was a professional from 1987 to 2009, active on the road and on the track, collecting in total 133 wins, and, as an amateur, represented West Germany at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California. During the first half of his career he mainly raced on the road, eventually resulting in 99 wins, including winning Omloop het Volk (1991), Tour de l'Oise (1991), three stages in the Tour de Suisse (1989, 1994), two stages in Paris–Nice (1988, 1991) and one stage in the 1988 Giro d'Italia. During the second half of his career he limited his activities on the road to mainly German criteriums as well as kermesses, which make up the chief part of his wins on the road. Plouay
Plouay (; ) is a commune in the Morbihan department in Brittany in north-western France. Plouay hosts the GP Ouest-France and the GP de Plouay, annual cycling races (a men's and women's race, respectively). It was also the location of the UCI Road World Championships in 2000. The Tour de France has visited this town three times: in 1998, 2002 and in 2006.
