1991 Fresno State Bulldogs Football Team
The 1991 Fresno State Bulldogs football team represented California State University, Fresno as a member of the Big West Conference during the 1990 NCAA Division I-A football season. Led by 14th-year head coach Jim Sweeney, Fresno State compiled an overall record of 10–2 with a mark of 6–1 in conference play, sharing the Big West title with San Jose State. The Bulldogs played their home games at Bulldog Stadium in Fresno, California. Fresno State earned NCAA Division I-A postseason bowl game berth in 1991. They played the Mid-American Conference (MAC) champion Bowling Green in the 11th annual California Bowl inat Bulldog Stadium on December 14. The Bulldogs were defeated by Bowling Green, 28–21, breaking their four-game bowl win streak. In the fourth game of the season, Fresno State scored a school record 94 points against the New Mexico, including 66 in the first half. Big West Conference
The Big West Conference (BWC) is an American collegiate athletic conference whose member institutions participate in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I. The conference was originally formed on July 1, 1969, as the Pacific Coast Athletic Association (PCAA), and in 1988 was renamed the Big West Conference. The conference stopped sponsoring college football after the 2000 season. Among the conference's 11 member institutions, 10 are located in California (with 9 located in Southern California alone) and one is located in Hawaii. Amos Alonzo Stagg Memorial Stadium, previously known as Pacific Memorial Stadium, was a 28,000-seat outdoor multi-purpose stadium in the western United States, located on the campus of the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California. The home venue of the Pacific Tigers was constructed in 1950 for football and later hosted women's soccer; it was closed in 2012 and demolished two years later. The 1991 Pacific Tigers football team represented the University of the Pacific (UOP) in the 1991 NCAA Division I-A football season as a member of the Big West Conference. The team was led by head coach Walt Harris, in his third year, and played their home games at Stagg Memorial Stadium in Stockton, California. They finished the season with a record of five wins and seven losses (5–7, 4–3 Big West). In a very high-scoring season, the Tigers were outscored by their opponents 435–481.
