The 1991 Australian Open was a tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts at Flinders Park in Melbourne in Victoria in Australia. It was the 79th edition of the Australian Open and was held from 14 through 27 January 1991. Seniors Men's singles Boris Becker defeated Ivan Lendl 1–6, 6–4, 6–4, 6–4 * It was Becker's 5th career Grand Slam title and his 1st Australian Open title. The Grand Slam in tennis is the achievement of winning all four major championships in one discipline in a calendar year, also referred to as the "Calendar-year Grand Slam" or "Calendar Slam". In doubles, a team may accomplish the Grand Slam playing together or a player may achieve it with different partners. Barbara Rittner (born 25 April 1973) is a German former professional tennis player. She currently is the captain of the German Fed Cup team. Her career-high singles ranking was No. 24 in the world, achieved on 1 February 1993. As a junior, she won the 1991 Wimbledon Championships. Jamie Holmes (born 4 May 1973) is a former professional tennis player from Australia. Biography Holmes, who is originally from Sydney, attended the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra. During his junior career, Holmes formed a doubles partnership with Paul Kilderry which took them to the boys' doubles semi-finals at the 1990 Wimbledon Championships, the final of the 1991 Australian Open, followed by quarter-finals at the 1991 French Open and 1991 Wimbledon Championships. Stephen Gleeson (tennis)
Stephen Michael Gleeson (born 3 August 1988) is an Irish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for club Hitchin Town. Gleeson played youth football in his native Dublin before coming to England at the age of 15 to join Wolverhampton Wanderers. He rarely played first-team football for them, but spent time on loan to lower-league clubs Stockport County (three separate spells), Hereford United and Milton Keynes Dons, before signing a three-year contract with the latter club in 2009. Beatriz "Gigi" Fernández (born February 22, 1964) is a Puerto Rican former professional tennis player.
