1990–91 FC Basel Season
The Fussball Club Basel 1893 1990–91 season was their 97th season since the club's foundation. Charles Röthlisberger was the club's chairman for the third consecutive year. FC Basel played their home games in the St. Jakob Stadium. Following their relegation in the 1987–88 season this was their third season in the second tier of Swiss football. After missing promotion the previous two seasons, the club's repeated priority aim was to return to the top flight of Swiss football. Only a few players left the team. Reto Baumgartner (born 28 April 1967) is a retired Swiss professional footballer who played in the late 1980s and early 1990s as defender. Since FC Basel's AGM in 2008, Baumgartner is a member of the club board of directors and since 16 November 2020, he is president of the club. He is businessman and member of the Basel-Stadt trade association. Football career Baumgartner played his youth football with Wettingen. He advanced to their first team for the first time during the 1984–85 Nationalliga A season, but usually played for their youth team. In 1987 he signed his first professional contract with the club and played solely for their first team. At the end of the 1986–87 season, Baumgartner and the team suffered relegation to the Nationalliga B. But he remained with the team and in the following season they achieved immediate promotion. FC Baden is a Swiss football club based in Baden, Canton Aargau, which is a short distance from Zürich. It was founded in 1897. Playing career Hangarter played his youth football with local club FC Brüttisellen and advanced to their first team in 1986. He played in their first team for two seasons. Hangarter signed his first professional contract during the summer break 1988 with St. Gallen and stayed with the club for a test season in the 1988–89 Nationalliga A.
