1990–91 ACB Season
The 1990–91 ACB season was the 8th season of the Liga ACB, after changing its name. The competition format changed again. The 24 teams were divided in two groups of 12 teams each. The eight first teams of each group advanced to the championship playoffs, and the four last teams of each group advanced to the relegation playoffs. Montigalà Joventut won their first ACB title, and their 3rd overall. It was the first ACB title won by a team besides FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. Liga ACB
The Liga ACB, known as Liga Endesa for sponsorship reasons, is the top professional basketball division of the Spanish basketball league system. Administrated by the Asociación de Clubs de Baloncesto (ACB), Liga ACB is contested by 18 teams, with the two lowest-placed teams relegated to the LEB Oro and replaced by the top team in that division plus the winner of the promotion playoffs. The competition was founded as the ACB Primera División on 1983 following the decision of clubs in the Liga Nacional, founded in 1957, to break away from the Spanish Basketball Federation and professionalize the league. The league's accumulated revenues were worth around €30 million in 2020, with Endesa and Movistar Plus+ contributing 50% of the revenues of the league. History Early years (1981-1988) Baloncesto León was founded by José Antonio Moirón García, Enrique Emperador Marcos, Juan Carlos Rodríguez Villanueva, Lisardo Mourelo González and Alberto Sobrín Martínez in León on 20 May 1981.
