1990 UCLA Bruins Softball Team
The 1990 UCLA Bruins softball team represented the University of California, Los Angeles in the 1990 NCAA Division I softball season. The Bruins were coached by Sharron Backus, who led her sixteenth season and Sue Enquist, in her second season, in an uncommonly used co-head coach system. The Bruins played their home games at Sunset Field and finished with a record of 62–7. They competed in the Pacific-10 Conference, where they finished first with a 16–2 record. The Bruins were invited to the 1990 NCAA Division I softball tournament, where they swept the 1990 NCAA Division I softball tournament#Regionals, West Regional and then completed a run through the 1990 NCAA Division I softball tournament#Women's College World Series, Women's College World Series to claim their fifth NCAA Women's College World Series Championship. Sharron Backus
Sharron Backus (born February 12, 1946) is a former softball player and coach. She played as a shortstop and third baseman on seven Amateur Softball Association national championship teams from 1961 to 1975. She served as the head softball coach at UCLA from 1975 to 1997 and led her teams to nine national collegiate softball championships. At the time of her retirement in 1997, she was the winningest college softball coach in the history of the sport. Backus has been inducted into both the National Softball Hall of Fame and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Softball player Backus attended Cal State Fullerton and played for 15 years as a shortstop and third baseman in the Amateur Softball Association ("ASA") from 1961 to 1975. OGE Energy Field at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium is a softball-specific ballpark located inside the USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, United States. It seats 13,000 and is the site of the annual Women's College World Series.
