1990 LPGA Championship
The 1990 LPGA Championship was the 36th LPGA Championship, played July 26–29 at Bethesda Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland, a suburb northwest of Washington, D.C. Five strokes back, Beth Daniel shot a final round 66 (−5) for 280 (−4) to win her sole major title, a stroke ahead of runner-up Rosie Jones, the third round leader. This was the first of four consecutive LPGA Championships at Bethesda Country Club. The purse (and winner's share) were doubled this year to $1 million and $150,000, respectively, the largest in LPGA Tour history. The LPGA Championship was the tour's richest major from this year through 1995. 1990 LPGA Tour
The 1990 LPGA Tour was the 41st season since the LPGA Tour officially began in 1950. The season ran from January 19 to November 4. The season consisted of 34 official money events. Beth Daniel won the most tournaments, seven. She also led the money list with earnings of $863,578. The Mazda LPGA Championship was the first tournament to offer a $1,000,000 purse and the first to have a winner's share of over $100,000. Cindy Figg-Currier
Cindy Figg-Currier (born February 23, 1960) is an American professional golfer who joined the LPGA Tour in October 1984. She was instructed by Paul Marchand and Harvey Penick. She also played under her maiden name, Cindy Figg, before her marriage on July 19, 1986. Figg was born in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. She started playing golf at age seven. She was the 1976 Toledo, Ohio junior girls golf champion and the 1978 Michigan Prep golf champion while she was at Mount Pleasant High School. In 2003, she was inducted into the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame. Figg played college golf at the University of Texas where she was named Most Valuable Player as a senior. Women's PGA Championship
The Women's PGA Championship (branded as the KPMG Women's PGA Championship for sponsorship reasons) is a women's professional golf tournament. First held in 1955, it is one of five majors on the LPGA Tour. It is not recognized as a major by the Ladies European Tour, which does not recognize any of the three majors played in the United States. Formerly known as the LPGA Championship, the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) announced in 2014 that the PGA of America would become a partner of the event, and that it would be renamed the Women's PGA Championship beginning in 2015—becoming a sister event to the men's PGA Championship (in a similar manner to the U.S. Women's Open being a sister event to the men's U.S. Open). Deb Richard (born June 13, 1963) is an American former professional golfer who was a member of the LPGA Tour for twenty years during the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. Amateur career Richard was born in Abbeville, Louisiana in 1963, and raised in Manhattan, Kansas. She first found success as an amateur golfer by winning the Kansas state high school golf championship three consecutive years for Manhattan High School (1979–1981). She followed by winning the Kansas Women's Amateur the next two years (1982, 1983). Anne Marie Palli (born 18 April 1955) is a French professional golfer who played on the LPGA Tour. Ayako Okamoto
is a Japanese professional golfer. She won 62 tournaments internationally, including 17 on the U.S.-based LPGA Tour. She is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. Early career Okamoto was born in Akitsu, Hiroshima, now part of Higashihiroshima, Hiroshima, Japan. In her youth and early 20s she was a softball player. She was the star pitcher on the Japanese national champion in 1971. Her club team was owned by the textile company Daiwabo, where Okamoto worked. Cathy Johnston-Forbes
Cathy Johnston-Forbes ( Johnston; born December 16, 1963) is an American professional golfer. She was born in High Point, North Carolina and attended the University of North Carolina. Professional career Johnston's rookie season on the LPGA Tour was 1986. Her only victory on the tour came in 1990 at one of the LPGA majors, the du Maurier Classic. She had her best finish on the money list that same year, placing 21st. In 1997, Johnston-Forbes tied for second in the Susan G. Pat Bradley (born March 24, 1951) is an American professional golfer. She became a member of the LPGA Tour in 1974 and won 31 tour events, including six major championships. She is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame.
