1990 Hall Of Fame Bowl
The 1990 Hall of Fame Bowl featured the ninth-ranked Auburn Tigers, and the 20th-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes. It was the fourth edition to the Hall of Fame Bowl. Ohio State scored first following a 1-yard touchdown run from Carlos Snow opening up a 7–0 lead. Auburn's Win Lyle kicked a 19-yard field goal, and Ohio State led 7–3 after one quarter. In the second quarter, Ohio State's Greg Frey connected with Brian Stablein from nine yards out to take a 14–3 lead. Reggie Slack threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Greg Taylor as Ohio State took a 14–10 lead to halftime. In the third quarter, Slack and Taylor connected on another 4-yard touchdown pass, as Auburn took a 17–14 lead. In the fourth quarter, Slack scored on a 5-yard touchdown run opening a 24–14 Auburn lead. A 2-yard touchdown pass from Slack to Herbert Casey made the final margin 31–14 in favor of Auburn. 1989 Ohio State Buckeyes Football Team
The 1989 Ohio State Buckeyes football team represented the Ohio State University in the 1989 NCAA Division I-A football season. The Buckeyes compiled an 8–4 record, including the 1990 Hall of Fame Bowl in Tampa, Florida, where they lost, 31–14, to the Auburn Tigers. Their biggest highlight was their game against Minnesota, in which they trailed 31-0, but came back to stun the Gophers 41-37. The ReliaQuest Bowl is an annual college football bowl game played at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, usually on New Year's Day. The event has been formerly called the Hall of Fame Bowl from 1986 to 1995 and the Outback Bowl from 1996 to 2022. It is organized by the Tampa Bay Bowl Association under Jim McVay, who has been the president and CEO since 1988. Brian Patrick Stablein (born April 14, 1970) is a former American football wide receiver in the National Football League. Early years Stablein played high school football at McDowell High School in Erie, Pennsylvania. He was a walk-on to the Ohio State Buckeyes football team in 1988. Greg Frey
Greg Frey (born January 29, 1968) is a former American football player. He is 1986 graduate of St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati, where he played quarterback. As a three-year starting quarterback for the Ohio State Buckeyes, he led the team to two notable come-from-behind wins. On September 24, 1988, he rallied Ohio State from a 33–20 deficit in the final four minutes to a 36–33 victory over the ninth-ranked LSU Tigers. On October 28, 1989, the Buckeyes were losing 31–0 to the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Frey brought the team back for a 41–37 win, throwing a total of 362 yards. Frey went on to play professional football for the Ohio Glory in the World League of American Football in 1992, and then in the original Arena Football League for the 1993 Cleveland Thunderbolts. Carlos Snow (born October 24, 1968) is a former American football tailback, starting in college for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Biography Snow was a 5-foot-8, 195-pound speedster who attended the now-defunct Cincinnati Academy of Physical Education. In his four seasons, he led the Crusaders to a 45-3 record and state championships in 1985 and 1986, his final two years of high school. He ran for more than 2,000 yards in three straight seasons and also showed prowess on defense. Signing with the Ohio State University, Snow battled through injuries (including hip surgery) to finish his career 6th on the all-time rushing list for the Buckeyes with 2,974 yards from 1987 to 1991.
