Discus Throw
The discus throw (), also known as disc throw, is a track and field event in which an athlete throws a heavy disk (mathematics), disc—called a discus—in an attempt to mark a farther distance than their competitors. It is an classical antiquity, ancient sport, as demonstrated by the fifth-century-BC Myron statue ''Discobolus''. Although not part of the current pentathlon, it was one of the events of the Ancient Olympic pentathlon, ancient Greek pentathlon, which can be dated back to at least 708 BC, and it is part of the modern decathlon. History The sport of throwing the discus traces back to it being an event in the Ancient Olympic Games, original Olympic Games of Ancient Greece. Vésteinn Hafsteinsson
Vésteinn Hafsteinsson (born 12 December 1960) is a retired discus thrower from Iceland. He was born in Selfoss, and represented his native country at four consecutive Summer Olympics, starting in 1984. His personal best is 67.64 metres, thrown on 31 May 1989 in Selfoss. Vésteinn competed in five consecutive World Championships, starting in 1983, but never reached the final. He previously coached World and Olympic champion Gerd Kanter, Olympic silver medalist Joachim B. Nikolay Kolev ( bg, Николай Колев; born November 21, 1968 in Kazanlak) is a retired discus thrower from Bulgaria who competed at the 1992 Summer Olympics. He won the Balkan Championships in 1990 and finished tenth at the 1991 World Championships. He also competed at the 1990 European Championships and the 1992 Olympic Games without reaching the final. Kolev became Bulgarian champion in 1990 and 1992. His toughest competitors were Georgi Georgiev and Kamen Dimitrov. Luciano Zerbini (born 16 February 1960) is an Italian retired Olympic discus thrower and shot putter. Biography Born in Lazise, Verona, Zebrini represented Italy at two Summer Olympics, starting in 1984 in Los Angeles, California. There he ended up in 7th place in the Men's Discus Throw competition. Vasiliy Kaptyukh
Vasiliy Borisovich Kaptyukh ( be, Васіль Барысавіч Капцюх; russian: Василий Борисович Каптюх; born June 27, 1967 in Maladzyechna) is a Belarusian former discus thrower who won the Olympic bronze medal in 1996. He has in fact never won gold or silver medals in major competitions, and he finished fourth in major contests such as the 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympics, despite he even setting his personal best throw at the former with 67.59 metres. His father Boris and his aunt Vera Kaptyukh were also prominent athletes. He made his first international appearance at the 1985 European Athletics Junior Championships, where he finished third to win the discus bronze medal. He retired from international athletics in June 2010. His son, Roman Kaptyukh, was among the victims of the 2011 Minsk Metro bombing.

Géjza Valent
Géjza Valent (born 3 October 1953 in Prague) is a retired male discus thrower from Czechoslovakia, who won the bronze medal at the 1983 World Championships. He set a personal best throw of 69.70 metres on 26 August 1984 at a meet in Nitra. Today, he continues to compete in veterans championships. Dragan Mustapić (born 23 March 1963) is a male discus thrower from Croatia. His personal best throw was 64.40 metres, achieved in July 2000 in Ljubljana. He also had 18.35 metres in the shot put, achieved in July 2005 in Zagreb. Mustapić was born in Imotski. He was a five-time Yugoslav discus throw champion (1987–1991) and was the first Yugoslav discus thrower to surpass 60 meters. He finished seventh at the 2001 Mediterranean Games.
