1990 Chatham Cup
The 1990 Chatham Cup was the 63rd annual nationwide knockout football competition in New Zealand. Up to the last 16 of the competition, the cup was run in three regions (northern, central, and southern). National League teams received a bye until the final 64 stage. In all, 147 teams took part in the competition. The 1990 final The final returned to the Cup's early home, the Basin Reserve. It was the first to be decided on penalties. Replays, which had been used in previous tied finals, were no longer used in the Chatham Cup by 1990. The final was close and tense, with three goals to each team. Mount Wellington finished the match with ten men after Dave Witteveen was sent off in extra time. Basin Reserve
The Basin Reserve (commonly known as "The Basin") is a cricket ground in Wellington, New Zealand. It has been used for Test matches, and is the main home ground for the Wellington Firebirds first-class team. The Basin Reserve is the only cricket ground to have New Zealand Historic Place status ( Category II) as it is the oldest Test cricket ground in the country. The ground has been used for events other than cricket, such as concerts, sports events and other social gatherings, but now it is mostly used for cricket, particularly Test matches. On 1 October 2021, Cello Communications, a Wellington-based telecommunications company was appointed as the naming rights partner of the ground, thus the commercial name of the stadium became the Cello Basin Reserve as part of a two-year agreement. Noel Barkley
Noel Barkley (born 1 March 1961) is a Northern Irish-born former association football player who represented New Zealand at international level. Career Barkley began his career in his native Northern Ireland, playing in the Irish League for Larne and Crusaders, before emigrating to New Zealand in February 1983. Barkley made his full All Whites debut in a 4–2 win over Fiji on 17 September 1986 and ended his international playing career with 20 A-international caps and 5 goals to his credit, his final cap gained in a 0–1 loss to Australia on 12 May 1991. Barkley won New Zealand Player of the Year award 3 times, in 1989, 1990 and 1992. Barkely scored 106 National League goals in 180 appearances. Waikato United
Waikato United was an association football club in Waikato, New Zealand. History Waikato United was formed in 1986. It was initially named AFC Waikato and came about through the amalgamation of AFC Hamilton with support from Hamilton Wanderers FC and Claudelands Rovers FC. In 1988 the name was changed to Waikato United. When formed Waikato took over Claudland Rovers' position in 1986's Northern League Division One. The club won the division in its first season. This saw the club gain promotion to the Northern Premier League. In the Chatham Cup The club was eliminated away 2–1 by Oratia United in the third round. Glenfield Rovers
Glenfield Rovers was a semi-professional football club based in Glenfield, New Zealand. The men's team competed in the NRFL Division 1 in 2020, having suffered relegation from the NRFL Premier in 2019. The women's team competed in the NRFL Women's Premier League, finishing 2nd with 40 points in the 2019 season. History In 1960 Glenfield Rovers began as the "Chelsea Sugar Refinery" football team. Gisborne City
Gisborne City AFC was an association football club in Gisborne, New Zealand. Founded in 1939 as Eastern Union, the club changed its name to Gisborne City after winning the Central Districts League at the first attempt in 1967. As Eastern Union, the club had competed in the Chatham Cup since the early 1950s, and reached the semi-final (and North Island Final) in 1957, losing to eventual champions Seatoun 3–1. Gisborne set the New Zealand record for the most players from one club to be chosen for the New Zealand national football team to compete at a FIFA World Cup. East Coast Bays is a football club located on Auckland's North Shore. The club has won the Chatham Cup and the NRFL Premier Division three times. History East Coast Bays were founded following a public meeting held at the Progressive Hall (since demolished and replaced by the Bays Club) in October 1958. The committee formed from this meeting entered four junior teams for the start of the 1959 season. As some of the committee members were supporters of Glasgow Rangers, the colours of Royal Blue shirts, white shorts, and royal Blue sox were adopted. Claudelands Rovers is a semi professional football club in New Zealand. It is based in the Hamilton suburb of Hamilton East. Claudelands Rovers Premier Men's Team plays in Division Two of the Lotto Northern League. The club also fields an U-23 Northern League team as a reserve grade side, and men's teams in several WAIBOP Football competitions. Mosgiel AFC is a semi-professional association football club in Mosgiel, New Zealand. They currently compete in the ODT FootballSouth Premier League. Club history The club was formed in 1913 and is based at Memorial Park. The club provides teams for men, women and juniors at all levels. The club's nickname, The Plainsmen, comes from Mosgiel's location on the Taieri Plains. Mosgiel have twice reached the final of the Chatham Cup, in 1938 and 1940, but have never won the competition. Cashmere Technical is an association football club based in Christchurch, New Zealand. It was formed in early 2012 from the merger of two of the city's premier teams, Cashmere Wanderers and Woolston Technical. The two clubs had agreed to work together in early 2011, and the 2011 Christchurch earthquake which devastated their home city and resulted in the loss of many playing facilities hastened their merger into a combined side.
