1989 Wightman Cup
The 1989 Wightman Cup was the 61st and final edition of the annual women's international tennis competition between the United States and Great Britain. It was held at The College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia in the United States and played on indoor hard courts. The Wightman Cup was discontinued on February 20, 1990. Betsy Nagelsen
Helen Elizabeth "Betsy" Nagelsen McCormack (born October 23, 1956) is an American former professional tennis player. Career Nagelsen was the world's top junior in 1973. She won the 1973 U.S. Champion Girls' 16 and under singles. She also won the USTA Girls' Sportsmanship Award in 1974. As a professional, she won the doubles championship at the 1978 and 1980 Australian Opens (with Renáta Tomanová and Martina Navratilova, respectively), and reached the singles final of the 1978 Australian Open, losing to Christine O'Neil. Over her 21-year career on the WTA Tour, Nagelsen won 26 doubles titles and four singles titles. Nagelsen reached her career-high singles ranking by the end of 1981, when she became the world No. 23. Anne Hobbs (born 21 August 1959 in Nottingham) is a British former professional tennis player. Tennis career Hobbs represented Great Britain in the Wightman Cup and Federation Cup from 1978 to 1989. She was ranked as the top British player for periods during her 12-year career and achieved a best WTA ranking of 33 in singles and 6 in doubles. Patty Fendick
Patty Fendick (born March 31, 1965) is a former professional tennis player and the former women's tennis program head coach at University of Texas. Born in Sacramento, California, she played at the collegiate level at Stanford University, where the team won the NCAA team title three times. In 1987, she was named ITA Player of the Year, when on the Stanford tennis team she had a 57-match winning streak. She won two NCAA singles titles in 1986 and 1987. She won the Broderick Award (now the Honda Sports Award) as the nation's top collegiate tennis player in 1987. Her playing accomplishments, as a collegiate and professional player, has elevated her being inducted into the Stanford Hall of Fame and also recognized as the Most Outstanding Student-Athlete of the first 25 years of NCAA women's tennis. Sara Gomer
Sara Louise Gomer (born 13 May 1964) is a retired tennis player from Great Britain. A left-hander, she competed for Britain at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul and the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. She won two singles titles on the ITF Circuit, and reached her highest individual ranking on the WTA Tour on 26 September 1988, when she became number 46 in the world and number 1 in Great Britain. Gomer won one WTA singles title, the 1988 Northern California Open, in Aptos, California, coached by Chris Bradnam. Joanna Mary Durie (born 27 July 1960) is a former world No. 5 tennis player from the United Kingdom. During her career, she also reached No. 9 in doubles, and won two Grand Slam titles, both in the mixed doubles with Jeremy Bates.
