1989 Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship
The 1989 Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship was the 99th staging of the Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Tipperary County Board in 1887. The championship ran from 17 September to 22 October 1989. Loughmore-Castleiney entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were beaten by Clonoulty-Rossmore in the quarter-finals. The final was played on 22 October 1989 at Semple Stadium in Thurles, between Clonoulty-Rossmore and Holycross-Ballycahill, in what was their first ever meeting in the final. Clonoulty-Rossmore won the match by 1–11 to 1–09 to claim their second championship title overall and a first title in 101 years. Lorrha's Kevin Hough was the championship's top scorer with 1–15. Mid Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship
The Mid Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Centenary Agri Mid Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Mid Tipperary Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1907 for senior hurling teams in Mid Tipperary, Ireland. The series of games begin in April, with the championship culminating with the final in August. The championship has always been played using a knock-out format. The Mid Tipperary Championship was, until recent times, an integral part of the wider Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship. The winners and runners-up of the Mid Tipperary Championship joined their counterparts from the other three divisions to contest the county championship quarter-finals. Nine clubs currently participate in the Mid Tipperary Championship. The all-time record-holders are Thurles Sarsfields, who have won a total of 45 titles. Donie O'Connell
Donie O'Connell (born 24 June 1960) is an Irish retired hurler. His league and championship career with the Tipperary senior team lasted ten seasons from 1981 to 1991. O'Connell first appeared for the Killenaule club at juvenile and underage levels, before eventually joining the club's adult team with whom he won three South Tipperary championship medals. O'Connell made his debut on the inter-county scene when he was selected for the Tipperary minor team as a dual player. He enjoyed two unsuccessful championship seasons in this grade. O'Connell subsequently joined the under-21 hurling team, winning back-to-back All-Ireland medals in 1980 and 1981. He later joined the Tipperary senior team, making his debut during the 1981-82 league. Over the course of the following ten seasons he enjoyed much success, culminating with the winning of All-Ireland medals in 1989 and 1991. Pat O'Neill (Tipperary Hurler)
Pat O'Neill is a retired Irish people, Irish sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club Cappawhite GAA, Cappawhite and with the Tipperary GAA, Tipperary senior inter-county team from 1987 until 1988. He captained the Tipperary team that won the National Hurling League 1987–88, 1988 National Hurling League, starting the final against Offaly GAA, Offaly at right half forward and scoring two goals and a point. Joe Hayes (hurler)
Joe Hayes (born 9 January 1963) is an Irish retired hurling manager and former player. His league and championship career with the Tipperary senior team spanned eight seasons from 1986 to 1994. Hayes first appeared for the Clonoulty–Rossmore club at juvenile and underage levels, before eventually joining the club's senior team. In 1989, he won a county championship medal. Hayes made his debut on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he was selected for the Tipperary minor team. He enjoyed two championship seasons with the minor team, winning an All-Ireland medal in his debut season. Hayes later joined the Tipperary under-21 team and was a back-to-back All-Ireland runner-up. Declan Carr
Declan Carr (born 30 July 1965) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a midfielder for the Tipperary senior team. Carr joined the team during the 1988-89 National League and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until he quit the panel after the 1993-94 National League. He made a brief return for the 1999 championship. During that time he won two All-Ireland medals, three Munster medals, one National League medal and one All-Star award. Carr captained the team to the All-Ireland title in 1991. At club level Carr is a one-time county club championship medalist with Holycross–Ballycahill. Tony Lanigan (hurler)
Tony Lanigan (born 1968) is an Irish former hurler. At club level he played with Holycross–Ballycahill and was also a member of the Tipperary senior hurling team. Career Lanigan first played hurling at juvenile and underage levels with the Holycross–Ballycahill club. He won a divisional title in the minor grade in 1984, the same year he won a special county title as a schoolboy with Thurles Vocational School. Lanigan eventually progressed onto the club's senior team and won a Tipperary SHC title in 1990 after beating Cashel King Cormacs in the final. He also won four Mid Tipperary SHC titles between 1985 and 1999. At inter-county level, had a two-year tenure with the Tipperary minor hurling team, however, Cork was the dominant team in the championship at the time. Cappawhite GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club is located in the village of Cappawhite, County Tipperary, bordering on County Limerick in Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Carrick Swans GAA
Carrick Swan GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club, located in the town of Carrick-on-Suir in south County Tipperary in Ireland. It is one of three GAA clubs in the town, one of which, St. Molleran's, is in County Waterford in the southern suburb of Carrickbeg. The Swan are predominantly a hurling club and lead the roll of honour for the number of South Tipperary senior hurling championships won. The club enjoys a keen rivalry with the longer established Carrick Davins, named in honour of Maurice Davin, first President of the GAA who lived at Deerpark near the town. They have one of the best setups for underage youngsters in the county with numerous county titles been won underage.
