1989 Scottish League Cup Final
The 1989 Scottish League Cup Final was played on 22 October 1989 at Hampden Park in Glasgow and was the final of the 44th Scottish League Cup competition (Skol Cup). The final was contested by Aberdeen and Rangers for the third season in succession, with Rangers winning the previous two. Aberdeen won the match 2–1 thanks to a Paul Mason double. Bobby Connor
Robert James Connor (born 4 August 1960) is a Scottish former footballer, who played as a midfielder. During his playing career, Connor made nearly 600 appearances in the Scottish Football League, and earned four caps for the Scotland national side between 1986 and 1990. Stuart Munro
Stuart David Munro (born 15 September 1962 in Falkirk) is a Scottish former professional football player, who is best known for his time with Rangers. Munro was signed from Alloa Athletic and made his top team debut for the Rangers against Dundee on 25 February 1984, aged 21. The game ended in a 3–1 win. He played a further six seasons before with Rangers before being sold to Blackburn Rovers for £350,000. He emigrated to Australia at the end of his career, appearing for Sydney United in the National Soccer League in what would be his final season of professional football. Terry Butcher
Terry Ian Butcher (born 28 December 1958) is an English football manager and former player. He works as an academy coach for Ipswich Town. During his playing career as a defender, Butcher captained the England national team, winning 77 caps in a ten-year international career that featured three FIFA World Cups. Butcher also enjoyed success in his club career, particularly with Ipswich Town and Rangers. Richard Gough
Charles Richard Gough (born 5 April 1962) is a Scottish former professional footballer who played as a defender. Gough played in the successful Dundee United team of the early 1980s, winning the Scottish league title in 1982–83 and reaching the European Cup semi-final in 1984. Gough joined Tottenham Hotspur in 1986 and captained them in the 1987 FA Cup Final. He then moved to Rangers and captained them to nine successive Scottish league titles. Christopher Charles Eric Woods (born 14 November 1959) is an English football coach and former professional footballer, who is goalkeeping coach for the Scotland national team. As a player, he was a goalkeeper who played in the Football League and Premier League for Nottingham Forest, Queens Park Rangers, Norwich City, Sheffield Wednesday, Reading, Southampton and Burnley. He also played in the Scottish Football League for Rangers and in Major League Soccer for the Colorado Rapids. John Alexander "Jocky" Scott (born 14 January 1948) is a Scottish football coach and former player. During his playing career he played for Dundee, Aberdeen, Seattle Sounders and Scotland. Alex Smith MBE (born 25 December 1939) is a Scottish former football player and manager. His major achievements over close to five decades as a manager include winning the Scottish Cup in 1987 with St Mirren and 1990 with Aberdeen, where he also won the Scottish League Cup in 1989. He had a role in the development of many prominent players, and the 2005 book on Scottish football, ''The Final Whistle?'' was described as "the nearest thing the Scottish game has to a father figure". Willem Van Der Ark
Willem van der Ark (; born 13 November 1963 in Groningen) is a former Dutch football (soccer) striker, who played for Aberdeen in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He was one of a series of Dutch players signed for the Scottish side during this time and Van der Ark was bought as a striker and noted for his height (6 foot, 5 inches). Club career Van der Ark came through the GVAV Rapiditas youth system and joined Cambuur in 1984. Brian Irvine (footballer)
Brian Irvine (born 24 May 1965 in Bellshill, Scotland) is a former international footballer who played as a central defender for Falkirk, Aberdeen, Dundee, Ross County and managed Elgin City. He was capped nine times by Scotland. Career After working in a bank on leaving school, Irvine began his professional career with Falkirk in 1983, aged 18. During his spell with the ''Bairns'', he became an evangelical Christian. Charlie Nicholas
Charles Nicholas (born 30 December 1961) is a Scottish former professional footballer. A striker, Nicholas is best known for his spells at Celtic and Arsenal. He won 20 international caps for Scotland, including playing at the 1986 FIFA World Cup. Nicholas began his career at Celtic, and by the age of 21 was considered the most exciting emerging talent in British football.
