1989 PBA All-Filipino Conference Finals
The 1989 PBA Fiesta All-Filipino Conference Finals was the best-of-7 series basketball championship of the 1989 PBA All-Filipino Conference, and the conclusion of the conference's playoffs. The San Miguel Beermen and Purefoods Hotdogs played for the 43rd championship contested by the league. This is the first All-Filipino finals series that will be competed in a best-of-seven format. San Miguel Beermen won their first All-Filipino crown and seventh PBA title with a 4–2 series victory against the Purefoods Hotdogs. The Beermen had won five of the last six conferences and are now getting close towards their bid for a possible grandslam. San Miguel Beermen
The San Miguel Beermen are a professional basketball team in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). It is one of three PBA clubs owned by the San Miguel Corporation group of companies along with the Magnolia Hotshots and Barangay Ginebra San Miguel. It is the most successful franchise in the history of the PBA and the only remaining original franchise in the league. The Beermen have the most titles with 28 and the most all-time victories with more than 1,200 wins. In addition, it has won the Grand Slam in and the Perpetual Jun Bernardino Trophy after winning three straight PBA Philippine Cups from 2015 to 2017. Joaquin M. Henson (born October 14, 1950), also known as Quinito Henson, is a Filipino sports analyst and television color commentator. His newspaper column, ''Sporting Chance'', has appeared in the ''Philippine Star'' since the 1980s. Self-dubbed as "The Dean", he himself has laced his writing with nicknames given to various athletes, such as "Captain Lionheart" for Alvin Patrimonio and "Tower of Power" for Benjie Paras. Jose J. Cantada, better known as "Smokin'" Joe Cantada, (March 15, 1942 – March 22, 1992) was a Filipino TV host, anchor & commentator. He died of lung cancer in March 1992. He distinguished himself with his smooth baritone voice and his flawless use of figures of speech and idioms in calling sports events. Together with Pinggoy Pengson, Cantada was a senior anchorman for the '' Vintage Sports''' PBA coverage in the 1980s. He was previously a boxing and cycling commentator.
