1989 Icelandic Cup
The 1989 Icelandic Cup was the 30th edition of the National Football Cup. It took place between 29 May 1989 and 27 August 1989, with the final played at Laugardalsvöllur in Reykjavik. The cup was important, as winners qualified for the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup (if a club won both the league and the cup, the defeated finalists would take their place in the Cup Winners' Cup). The 10 clubs from the 1. Deild entered in the last 16, with clubs from lower tiers entering in the three preliminary rounds. Teams played one-legged matches. In case of a draw, a penalty shoot-out took place (there were no replays, unlike in previous years). Fram won their seventh Icelandic Cup, beating KR Reykjavik in the final, and so qualifying for Europe. ''Knattspyrnufélagið Fram'' (''Fram Football Club'') is an Icelandic sports club, best known for its football and handball teams. It was founded on 1 May 1908 in Reykjavík. It was based at Safamýri, in the Háaleiti og Bústaðir district near Reykjavík city centre before slowly moving operations to the newly established Grafarholt district. The football team currently plays in the second division, the 1. deild karla after being relegated in the 2014 season. Ungmennafélagið Snæfell, simply known as ''Snæfell'', is a sport club in Stykkishólmur, Iceland. There are four divisions: basketball, football, Swimming and Golf. Magni Grenivík
Magni Grenivík is an Icelandic sports club from the village of Grenivík, mainly known for its football team. The club has a football team currently playing in the second tier of Icelandic football also known as Inkasso-deild karla. Magni was founded in 1915 by Magnús Björnsson making it one of the oldest teams in Icelandic football history. Stadium Magni play their matches at Grenivíkurvöllur but also play at Boginn in Akureyri if the pitch condition is poor as is common during the preseason. Seating and the new facilities were installed at Grenivíkurvöllur due to their promotion to the second tier of Icelandic football. UMFS Dalvík (officially named Ungmennafélag Svarfdæla, usually referred to as Dalvík, previously referred to as Svarfdælir) is an Icelandic sports club located in Dalvík. Knattspyrnufélag Fjallabyggðar (KF) is an Icelandic football club from the towns Ólafsfjörður and Siglufjörður who form the municipality Fjallabyggð, currently playing in the 2. deild karla. Ungmennafélagið Einherji is an Icelandic sports club, based in Vopnafjörður, Iceland. The club is named after the einherjar, figures from Norse Mythology. History The club was founded in Vopnafjörður on December 1, 1929, as Íþróttafélagið Einherjar. The first chairman was Ingólfur Erlendsson. The name of the club was changed to Ungmennafélagið Einherjar in 1943 and later to Ungmennafélagið Einherji. In 1974 the club played in the Icelandic 3rd division (2. deild karla) for the first time. Penalty Shoot-out (association Football)
A penalty shoot-out (officially kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method in association football to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as extra time (if used) have expired. In a penalty shoot-out, each team takes turns shooting at goal from the penalty mark, with the goal defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Each team has five shots which must be taken by different kickers; the team that makes more successful kicks is declared the victor. Shoot-outs finish as soon as one team has an insurmountable lead. If scores are level after five pairs of shots, the shootout progresses into additional " sudden-death" rounds. Balls successfully kicked into the goal during a shoot-out do not count as goals for the individual kickers or the team, and are tallied separately from the goals scored during normal play (including extra time, if any).
