Istora Gelora Bung Karno
Gelora Bung Karno Sports Palace ( id, Istana Olahraga Gelora Bung Karno, abbreviated as ''Istora''), the formerly name ''Istora Senayan'' is an indoor sporting arena located in Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex, Jakarta, Indonesia. The capacity of the arena after 2018 reopening is 7,166. This arena is usually used for badminton tournaments. Its maiden event was the 1961 Thomas Cup. It was also used during the 1962 Asian Games and was renovated to host the 2018 edition. Its first post-renovation event was the 2018 Indonesia Masters. During the latter Games, it hosted the badminton and later stages of basketball events. The arena originally was planned to stage the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup and becoming the only Indonesian venue in the three-country joint bid but was moved to a newly-built arena inside the complex. Eddy Kurniawan
Eddy Kurniawan (; born 2 July 1962 in Semarang, Central Java) is a retired Chinese-Indonesian male badminton player. Career Kurniawan's prime years, the mid to late 1980s, were a period of Chinese domination of international men's singles competition. Though he frequently appeared in the later rounds of major international tournaments, the hard-fighting Kurniawan rarely won them. One exception was his victory at the 1990 World Badminton Grand Prix, where he defeated Malaysia's Rashid Sidek in the final. He won the Australian Open in 1992. Kurniawan was a bronze medalist at the 1989 IBF World Championships in Jakarta. Perhaps the highlight of his career was his performance at the 1989 Sudirman Cup (combined men's and women's team world championship) when his victories over Korean opponents in both singles and mixed doubles in the last two matches of the contest secured the title for Indonesia. Rudy Gunawan
Rudy Gunawan (; born 31 December 1966) is a former Indonesian badminton player who played between 1980s and 1990s. He is arguably one of the best doubles players ever to play for Indonesia. Rudy Gunawan won various international championships, both in the men's doubles and mixed doubles events. He has paired up with players such as Eddy Hartono, Rosiana Tendean, Bambang Suprianto, and Ricky Subagja. He was on the Thomas Cup team of Indonesia five times (1988, 1990, 1992, 1994, and 1996) but only won gold in 1994 and 1996. In addition, he helped strengthen the Indonesian team in the race for 1989 Sudirman Cup. Rudy twice competed in the Summer Olympics. In the 1992 Olympics, Rudy and Eddy won a silver medal following the defeat in the final match to South Korean pair Park Joo-bong and Kim Moon-soo. Jalani Sidek
Datuk Jalani Sidek (born 12 November 1964) is a former badminton player from Malaysia and coach. Personal life He is the third eldest of the five Sidek brothers. Jalani and his siblings gained exposure about badminton sport from their father, Haji Mohd Sidek. Under the guidance of his father, Jalani and the rest of his siblings were trained to be champions. In addition, he is also one of the alumnus of Victoria Institution (batch 1976-1982). Jalani was previously married to a Malaysian film producer, Raja Azmi (born 1959) of the Perak royal family on 23 December 1984 and the couple had three children namely Puteri Suraya (born 1987), Puteri Suhaida (born 1989) dan Megat Deli (born 1994). Datuk Razif Sidek (born 29 May 1962) is a former badminton player from Malaysia and coach. Personal life He is the second eldest of the famous five Sidek brothers. Razif and his siblings gained exposure about badminton sport from their father, Sidek Abdullah Kamar, Haji Mohd Sidek. Under the guidance of his father, Razif and the rest of his siblings were destined to be Malaysia's champions. In addition, Razif Sidek is one of the alumni of Victoria Institution (batch 1974–1980). He is married to a former model, Khalidah Khalid and the couple is blessed with five children. In addition, his youngest son, Mohd Fazriq is also active in badminton just like his father. Tian Bingyi (; born July 30, 1963) is a former badminton star from China. Though he played some singles internationally early in his career, he soon specialised in men's doubles. Career From the mid 1980s to the early 1990s Tian and his regular partner Li Yongbo won numerous top tier international titles. They were contemporaries and rivals of the famous Korean team of Park Joo-bong and Kim Moon-soo, largely dividing the world's biggest championships between them for about eight seasons. Sarwendah Kusumawardhani Sukiran (born 22 August 1967) is a retired badminton player from Indonesia. She was the women's singles champions at the 1990 World Cup and 1993 Southeast Asian Games. Kusumawardhani was part of Indonesia winning team at the inaugural Sudirman Cup, also the women's team event of Southeast Asian Games in 1987, 1989, 1991 and 1993.
