The 1989 Grand Prix de Tennis de Toulouse was a men's tennis tournament played on indoor carpet courts in Toulouse, France that was part of the Regular Series of the 1989 Grand Prix tennis circuit. It was the eighth edition of the tournament and was held from 9 October – 15 October. Jimmy Connors
James Scott Connors (born September 2, 1952) is an American former world No. 1 tennis player. He held the top Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) ranking for a then-record 160 consecutive weeks from 1974 to 1977 and a career total of 268 weeks. By virtue of his long and prolific career, Connors still holds three prominent Open Era men's singles records: 109 titles, 1,557 matches played, and 1,274 match wins. His titles include eight major singles titles (a joint Open Era record five US Opens, two Wimbledons, one Australian Open), three year-end championships, and 17 Grand Prix Super Series titles. In 1974, he became the second man in the Open Era to win three major titles in a calendar year, and was not permitted to participate in the fourth, the French Open. Andres Võsand (born 10 March 1966) is a former professional tennis player from Estonia. He represented the Soviet Union for most of his career, but was based in West Germany, then in 1995 took up German citizenship.All draw sheets on the ATP website give his nationality as German or West German, but he didn't become a German citizen until after he retired from the ATP Tour Career Võsand won the mixed doubles title at the 1987 USSR tennis championship and was also a singles semi-finalist. The Estonian appeared in the main draw of five Grand Slam tournaments during his career. He twice made it past the first round, both times in the French Open. José Francisco Altur
José Francisco Altur Gascón (born 24 March 1968) is a former professional tennis player from Spain. Career Pro tour Altur won the 1989 San Marino Open, as a qualifier, although he didn't have to face a single top 100 player. It was his only tournament win on the ATP Tour. He played 11 Grand Slam singles matches during his career, but lost them all. His most noteworthy efforts were taking a set off Jim Courier at the 1990 French Open and winning the opening set against Michael Chang at that year's Wimbledon. Altur did however make it into the second round of the Men's Doubles at the 1990 Australian Open, his only Grand Slam appearance in that format. Michiel Schapers (born 11 October 1959) is a former tennis player from the Netherlands. Tennis career Turning professional in 1982, Schapers represented his native country at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, where he was defeated in quarterfinals by eventual winner Miloslav Mečíř of Czechoslovakia. In 1987 at Wimbledon, he was the only player to take a set against eventual champion Pat Cash in their third-round match. Per Christian Bergström (born 19 July 1967) is a former tennis player from Sweden, who turned professional in 1985. He did not win any titles (neither singles nor doubles) during his career, but reached three singles quarter-finals in Grand Slam tournaments: Wimbledon (1990, 1994) and Australian Open (1993).
