1989 FIBA Africa Championship
The FIBA Africa Championship 1989 was hosted by Angola from December 16 to December 27, 1989. The games were played in Luanda. Angola won the tournament, its first African Championship, by beating Egypt in the final. Both teams qualified for the 1990 FIBA World Championship as a result of their showing in this tournament. The FIBA Africa Championship 1987 was an international basketball tournament for teams in the International Basketball Federation's FIBA Africa zone hosted by Tunisia from December 17 to December 18, 1987. Frédéricque Rufin Goporo
Frédéricque Rufin Goporo (born 8 August 1966) is a Central African former basketball player and coach. He was elected Most Valuable Player at the FIBA Africa Championship 1987, a tournament his team won. Goporo competed at the 1988 Summer Olympics with the Central African Republic national basketball team and scored in double digits for 6 out of the team's 7 games. José Carlos Guimarães
José Carlos Ribeiro de Carvalho Guimarães (born 9 April 1964 in Luanda), known as Zé Carlos, is a former Angolan basketball player and a former coach of the Angola national basketball team. He played as a guard and as a forward. He achieved a huge success in his career playing for Portuguese side S.L. Benfica (basketball), Benfica, where he won several National Championship and the Cup of Portugal titles, with his fellow countryman Jean-Jacques Conceição, Jean-Jacques. Jean-Jacques Nzadi da Conceição (born 3 April 1964, in Kinshasa), more commonly known as J.J. Conceição or Jean-Jacques, is an Angolan-Portuguese retired professional basketball player. A 2.02 m (6'7 "), 100 kg (220 lbs.) power forward, he represented Angola at the AfroBasket, where he won a record seven African titles. At the club level, he won five Angolan League championship titles with Primeiro de Agosto and four Angolan Cups, before moving to Benfica in Portugal, where he won seven Portuguese national championships and three Portuguese Federation Cups. Pavilhão da Cidadela is an Angolan indoor sporting arena located in Luanda, Angola. The capacity of the arena is 6,873 people. 1990 FIBA World Championship
The 1990 FIBA World Championship was the 11th FIBA World Championship, the international basketball world championship for men's teams. It was hosted by Argentina from 8 to 19 August 1990. The final phase of the competition was held at the Luna Park, Buenos Aires. Yugoslavia emerged as the tournament winner. This was the last World Championship in which the country participated before its dissolution. Likewise, the Soviet Union participated in its final tournament before its dissolution. This was the first ever FIBA World Championship (now called FIBA Basketball World Cup) tournament, in which non-American current NBA players that had also already played in an official regular season NBA game could participate.
