Southwestern Athletic Conference
The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) is a collegiate athletic conference headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, which is made up of historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in the Southern United States. It participates in the NCAA's Division I for most sports; in football, it participates in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), formerly referred to as Division I-AA. The SWAC is widely considered the premier HBCU conference and ranks among the elite in the nation in terms of alumni affiliated with professional sports teams, particularly in football. 1989 Lamar Cardinals Football Team
The 1989 Lamar Cardinals football season was the program's final season until reinstatement in 2010. The Cardinals played their home games at the on-campus Cardinal Stadium, now named Provost Umphrey Stadium. The program ended the season and the sport for over 20 years with a home game on November 18 against rival McNeese State McNeese State University is a public university in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Founded in 1939 as Lake Charles Junior College, it was renamed McNeese Junior College after John McNeese, an early local educator. The present name was adopted in 1970. ....
