1988–89 England Hockey League Season
The 1988–89 English Hockey League season took place from October 1988 until April 1989. A new league format was introduced to English hockey whereby two divisions of sixteen teams would compete in the first and second divisions with promotion and relegation. This replaced the previous format of regional leagues. The Men's National League attracted a sponsor in Poundstretcher and they would commit £300,000 over three years. The inaugural competition was won by Southgate and the top four teams qualified to take part in the Poundstretcher League Cup tournament which was won by Hounslow. The Men's Hockey Association Cup was won by Hounslow and the Women's Cup (National Club Championship finals) was won by Ealing. Men's England Hockey League
The Men's England Hockey League is a field hockey league organized by England Hockey that features men's teams from England and Wales. Format Regular season There are 62 teams in the league, the top tier consists of a Premier Division of twelve teams. Below this is tier two, which consists of two ten-team Division One regional teams (North and South). The third tier consists of three regional conferences North, West, and East, all consisting of ten teams. The teams play each other home and away during an 18 week season from September to April. The league has a winter break between December and February. The winners of the Premier Division regular season automatically qualify to play in the Euro Hockey League. League Finals Weekend The top four Premier Division teams from the regular season qualify for the League Finals Weekend. The team that wins this tournament will be overall champions of the Men's England Hockey League and will qualify to play in the Euro Hockey League. I ...

Wakefield Hockey Club is a field hockey club that is based in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England. The club was founded in 1899. The club plays fixtures at the College Grove Sports Ground, Eastmoor Road pitches (green and blue). Sean Kerly
Sean Robin Kerly (born 29 January 1960) is an English former field hockey player. Biography Kerly was born in Whitstable and was educated at Chatham House Grammar School in Ramsgate. He has played club hockey for Canterbury, Southgate and Herne Bay. In 1981, he made his England senior international debut. At the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, he helped Great Britain secure the bronze medal. Kerly scored the winning goal in the bronze medal match in LA against Australia (3-2). The success is attributed as having revived interest in hockey in Britain. Two years later, at the 1986 Men's Hockey World Cup, Britain won the silver medal on home ground in London, with Kerly scoring four goals in the tournament. Stephen James "Steve" Batchelor (born 22 June 1961) is an English former field hockey player. Robert Clift
Robert John Clift (born 1 August 1962) is a former field hockey player. He was a member of the Great Britain squad in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul where they won a gold medal. Richard David Allan Dodds OBE (born 23 February 1959) is an English former field hockey player. He was captain of the gold medal-winning Great Britain squad in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. Four years earlier, he won Bronze at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. He also captained the England squad who won Silver at the 1986 Hockey World Cup.
