1988 Ottawa Rough Riders Season
The 1988 Ottawa Rough Riders finished the season in fourth place in the East Division with a 2–16 record and failed to qualify for the post-season. In terms of winning percentage (0.111), this was the worst season the franchise had endured since the formation of the Canadian Football League. Additionally, it was the worst record for a Grey Cup host city team as Ottawa hosted the 76th Grey Cup this year. The Rough Riders, which prior to the start of the season promised their fans good things for the coming year, had dubbed the 1988 season "Super season '88". Fred Glick
Frederick Couture Glick (born February 25, 1937) is an American former gridiron football player and coach. Glick played as a safety in the National Football League (NFL) for the Chicago/St. Louis Cardinals and the Houston Oilers. Early life Glick was born in Aurora, Colorado. After some time spent in Lakewood, Colorado, the family moved to a dairy farm in Laporte, Colorado when Glick was in the fourth grade. The town's proximity to Fort Collins made Colorado State University (then known as Colorado A&M) the place he wanted to play football. He would be the third Glick to attend Colorado State. In total, four Glick brothers (Ivan, Leon, and Gary) attended the university, each receiving letters in football. He largely played as a quarterback as well as defensive back. Bob Weber (American Football)
Robert Weber (April 21, 1934 – November 1, 2008) was an American gridiron football player and coach. He served as the head football coach at the University of Arizona from 1969 to 1972 and at the University of Louisville from 1980 to 1984, compiling a career college football head coaching record of 36–61. Weber grew up on a farm near Fort Collins, Colorado and played Center (gridiron football), center at Colorado State University from 1951 to 1954, earning all-Mountain States Conference, Skyline Conference honors his final two years. After college, he played in the Canadian Football League (CFL) with the Edmonton Eskimos for a year before a water skiing injury ended his playing career. 76th Grey Cup
The 76th Grey Cup was the 1988 Canadian Football League championship game that was played at Lansdowne Park in Ottawa, between the BC Lions and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The Blue Bombers defeated the favoured Lions 22–21. This was the first Grey Cup game between two teams from west of Ontario, and the first to be won by a team which had only a .500 season. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are a professional Canadian football team based in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. They are currently members of the East Division of the Canadian Football League (CFL).
