The 1988 Copa Libertadores de América Finals was the final two-legged tie to determine the 1988 Copa Libertadores champion. It was contested by Uruguayan club Nacional and Argentine club Newell's Old Boys. 1988 Copa Libertadores
The 1988 Copa Libertadores de América was the 29th edition of the Copa Libertadores, South America's premier international club football tournament organized by CONMEBOL. This season's defending champion Peñarol of Uruguay were defeated by San Lorenzo of Argentina. In the finals, Nacional defeated Newell's Old Boys. Norberto Scoponi
Norberto Hugo Scoponi (born 13 January 1961) is an Argentine former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He was born in the city of Rosario in the Santa Fe Province of Argentina. He played the majority of his career for Newell's Old Boys of the Primera División Argentina where he won three Argentine league titles. In 1995 Scoponi moved to Mexico to play for Cruz Azul, he returned to Argentina in 1998 to play for Club Atlético Independiente where he played until his retirement in 2000. Scoponi was the reserve goalkeeper for Argentina during their victorious Copa América 1993 campaign and in the 1994 FIFA World Cup. Hugo De León
Hugo Eduardo de León Rodríguez (born 27 February 1958) is a Uruguayan football coach and former player, who played as a defender. Club career De León joined Nacional in 1977. With Nacional, he won two Uruguayan league titles, in 1977 and 1980, the Copa Libertadores in 1980. In 1981, he left Nacional to play for Gremio therefore missing the final game of the 1980 Intercontinental Cup which Nacional would subsequently win. With Gremio he won the Copa Libertadores and the Intercontinental Cup in 1983. After spells in Brazil and Spain he returned to Nacional in 1988, to win the Copa Libertadores and Intercontinental Cup in that year, and the Copa Interamericana and Recopa Sudamericana in 1989. At the end of the year, he left Nacional to play for River Plate of Argentina, where he won the 1989/1990 league title. José Yudica
José Antonio Yudica (February 26, 1936 – August 23, 2021) was an Argentine football player and manager. Yudica had limited success as a player, winning only two titles during his brief spell at Deportivo Cali. After retirement as a player he took up management, this is where he achieved his most notable successes, leading Quilmes to their first championship after 66 years, winning three Argentine league titles with three clubs (the first manager ever to achieve this), and leading Argentinos Juniors to success in the Copa Libertadores. Sergio Omar Almirón (born 18 November 1958 in Rosario) is a retired Argentine footballer who played as a centre-forward. Roque Raúl Alfaro (born 15 August 1956 in Nogoyá, Entre Ríos) is an Argentine football manager and former player who played as a striker. Playing career Alfaro started his professional career with Newell's Old Boys in the mid 1970s. In 1981, he was signed by Panathinaikos FC in Greece, and he played under the greek surname Bistakis. He returned to South America later that year to play for América de Cali in Colombia where he won two league championships. Gerardo Martino
Gerardo Daniel "Tata" Martino (born 20 November 1962) is an Argentine professional football manager and former player. Martino played mostly for Newell's Old Boys in his native Rosario. He holds the record of appearances with the team playing a total of 505 matches in all official competitions. He was also selected in a fan's poll as Newell's best player throughout the club's history. Martino was chosen to replace Tito Vilanova as manager of FC Barcelona at the start of the 2013–14 season, but announced his resignation on 17 May 2014, though his side finished runner-up in both the Copa del Rey and La Liga that season. Roberto Néstor Sensini (born 12 October 1966) is an Argentine football manager and former player, who played as a centre-back or defensive midfielder.
