1988 CONCACAF Pre-Olympic Tournament
The 1988 CONCACAF Pre-Olympic Tournament was the seventh edition of the CONCACAF Pre-Olympic Tournament, the quadrennial, international football tournament organised by the CONCACAF to determine which national teams from the North, Central America and Caribbean region qualify for the Olympic football tournament. United States and Guatemala qualified for the 1988 Summer Olympics. Mexico had originally qualified but were disqualified by FIFA for the Cachirules scandal. Brent Goulet
Brent Goulet (born June 19, 1964) is a retired American soccer forward who later coached SV Elversberg from 2004 to 2008. He began his career in the United States before moving to England and Germany, and also earned eight caps with the U.S. national team. He was the 1987 U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year (Most prestigious award in U.S. Soccer) and was a member of the United States Olympic Soccer team at the (1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea). The Caribbean Football Union (CFU) is the representative organization for football associations in the Caribbean. CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualifying Tournament
The CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualifying Championship was a quadrennial, international, age-restricted football tournament organized by CONCACAF to determine which men's under-23 national teams from the North, Central America and Caribbean region qualify for the Olympic football tournament. The competition format had varied since its inception, from 1996 to the final edition in 2020 it had been hosted in a single country. On 16 September 2021, CONCACAF announced that the representatives at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games will qualify through the 2022 CONCACAF U-20 Championship. The two finalist at the Concacaf u20 tournament will qualify for the Olympics in 2024. The Cachirules scandal was a 1988 association football scandal in which the Mexican Football Federation (FEMEXFUT) was found to have knowingly used at least four overage players (Gerardo Jiménez, José de la Fuente, José Luis Mata, and Aurelio Rivera) on the Mexico under-20 team which played at the 1988 CONCACAF U-20 Tournament, a qualification tournament for the 1989 FIFA World Youth Championship.
