1987–88 United States Network Television Schedule (Saturday Morning)
The 1987–88 network television schedule for the four major English language commercial broadcast networks in the United States. The schedule covers primetime hours from September 1987 through August 1988. The schedule is followed by a list per network of returning series, new series, and series cancelled after the 1986–87 season. Note: This is the first fall season for Fox, and the first year since 1958-59 that a fourth commercial television network ( NTA) was broadcasting. Fox would air only two days a week until 1989. PBS is not included; member stations have local flexibility over most of their schedules and broadcast times for network shows may vary. New series are highlighted in bold. In the United States, for most of the history of broadcasting, there were only three or four major commercial national terrestrial networks. Burning Off
In American broadcast programming, "burning off" is the custom of quickly airing the remaining episodes of a television program, usually one that has already been or is planned to be cancelled, without the intent to attract a large number of viewers. In addition to airing episodes two at a time, this process may also include rescheduling the show to a lower-rated time slot, or transferring the show to a less visible sister network. A low-rated show that premiered in the early portion of the regular television season may return during the summer, only to have the final episodes "burned off." The ABC Sunday Night Movie
''The ABC Sunday Night Movie'' is a television program that aired on Sunday nights, first for a brief time in 1962 under the title ''Hollywood Special'' (although ''Time'' magazine lists this version as ''The Sunday Night Movie'') to supposedly replace an open time slot for the TV show ''Bus Stop'', which was cancelled after March 1962. It then began airing regularly under its more commonly known title from late 1964 to 1998, on ABC. ''Buck James'' is an American medical drama television series created by Paul F. Edwards that aired on ABC from September 27, 1987 until May 5, 1988. Premise Buck James is a middle-aged surgeon at a hospital in Texas who also has a passion for ranching. James, a "hard-driving, daredevil, brilliant sort of fellow", is chief surgeon at Holloman University Hospital and head of one of its trauma units.
