Team Ice Racing World Championship
The FIM Ice Speedway of Nations, formerly known as the Ice Speedway Team World Championship, is an international ice speedway competition, first held in Kalinin (Tver), USSR, in 1979. Since its establishment, the tournament has been noted by a continued Russian dominance: the Soviet Union, Commonwealth of Independent States and Russia have won all but three tournaments. The only non-Russian teams to have won were West Germany in 1983, and Sweden - in 1985, 1995 and 2002. Heerenveen
Heerenveen (, fry, It Hearrenfean ) is a town and municipality in the province of Friesland (Fryslân), in the Northern Netherlands. In 2021, the town had a population of 29,790 (1 January) while the municipality had a population 50,859 (1 July). History The town was established in 1551 by three lords as a location for the purpose of digging peat which was used for fuel, hence the name (''heer'' is "lord", ''veen'' is "peat"). Heerenveen was not one of the traditional eleven cities in Friesland (Fryslân) as it did not have so-called city rights. However, it is now one of the larger municipalities of the province. The windmill ''Welgelegen'' or ''Tjepkema's Molen'' is the only survivor of seventeen which have stood in Heerenveen. Yuri Leonidovich Ivanov (born 2 July 1959) is a former international speedway rider from the Soviet Union. Speedway career Kazakov is a three times world champion after winning the gold medal at the Individual Ice Speedway World Championship in the 1986 Individual Ice Speedway World Championship, 1987 Individual Ice Speedway World Championship and 1992 Individual Ice Speedway World Championship. In addition he won the Team Ice Racing World Championship seven times (1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991 and 1992). Per-Olof Serenius
Per-Olof "Posa" Serenius (born 9 March 1948) in Hedemora, Sweden, is a Swedish former ice speedway rider. He is notable for winning two World Individual Championship gold medals in ice speedway. Biography Serenius was a fireman by profession. Already an experienced motorcyclist, he began to compete in ice speedway racing in 1976 after witnessing a World Championship ice speedway competition in Berlin. His career racing record includes two World Individual Championship gold medals, three World Team gold medals, 32 World finals, 22 national championships and eight Nordic Championships. He participated in the documentary film ''Icy Riders'' from 2008. In 2016, Serenius was named an FIM Legend for his motorcycle racing achievements. The 1987 Speedway World Team Cup was the 28th edition of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme, FIM Speedway World Team Cup to determine the team world champions. Denmark won two legs and therefore won their fifth consecutive title (and seventh in total) moving to just one title win if England's record 8. 1987 Individual Speedway World Championship
The 1987 Individual Speedway World Championship was the 42nd edition of the official World Championship to determine the world champion rider. It was contested for the one and only time over two days in the Netherlands. The scores from both meetings were combined to produce the eventual winner. With the chances of a surprise winner reduced due to two races being held it was the favourite Hans Nielsen that duly obliged with his second World crown. Nielsen had trailed after day one by 1 point to great rival Erik Gundersen and the American Sam Ermolenko. However in trademark style Nielsen produced a 15 point maximum on day two to wrap up the World Title, with Gundersen claiming silver and Ermolenko bronze.
