The 1987 Queen's Birthday Honours for Australia were announced on Monday 8 June 1987 by the office of the Governor-General of Australia, Governor-General. The Birthday Honours were appointments by some of the 16 Commonwealth realms of Queen Elizabeth II to various orders and honours to reward and highlight good works by citizens of those countries. The Birthday Honours are awarded as part of the Queen's Official Birthday celebrations during the month of June. Arthur George
Sir Arthur Thomas George AO, born Athanasios Theodore Tzortzatos (17 January 1915 – 4 September 2013), was an Australian lawyer and association football administrator. Early life George was born in Sydney, Australia to parents of Greek ancestry and was schooled at Kensington Public School. He later attended Sydney Boys High School from 1928 to 1937 before taking the Solicitors Admission Board test and being admitted as a solicitor in 1938. Soccer George was President of the Australian Soccer Federation between 1969 and 1988, and President of the Oceania Football Confederation from 1978 to 1982. David Gulpilil
David Dhalatnghu Gulpilil (1 July 1953 – 29 November 2021), known professionally as David Gulpilil and posthumously (at his family's request, to avoid naming the dead) as David Dalaithngu for three days, was an Indigenous Australian actor and dancer, known for the films ''Walkabout'', ''Storm Boy'', ''Crocodile Dundee'', ''Rabbit-Proof Fence'' and '' The Tracker''. He was one of the Yolngu people and was raised in a traditional lifestyle in Arnhem Land, in northern Australia, and was a skilled dancer as a young man when British director Nicolas Roeg recognised his talent. Frederica Lucy "Rica" Erickson , née Sandilands, (10 August 1908 – 8 September 2009) was an Australian naturalist, botanical artist, historian, author and teacher. Without any formal scientific training, she wrote extensively on botany and birds, as well as genealogy and general history. Gilbert William Arthur Duthie AM (21 May 1912 – 13 June 1998) was an Australian politician. Born in Nhill, Victoria, he was educated at state schools and at the University of Melbourne before becoming a schoolteacher and farmer in rural Victoria. In 1938 he was ordained a Methodist minister, and in 1944 he moved to Latrobe, Tasmania. In 1945 and 1946 Duthie was directly involved with Australian rules football in the town. Richard Ian Charlesworth AO (born 6 February 1952) is an Australian sports coach and former politician. He played first-class cricket for Western Australia and international field hockey for the Kookaburras (the Australian national team), winning a silver medal at the 1976 Summer Olympics. Don Burton (politician)
Donald Ross Burton AM (3 March 1920 – 17 May 2007) was an Australian politician. He was a Labor member of the New South Wales Legislative Council from 1976 to 1984. Burton was born in Traralgon in Victoria, where he was educated at state schools. In 1941 he enlisted with the Civilian Military Forces, moving to the AIF in 1943. He left the armed services in 1946, and renewed his membership of the Labor Party (he had first joined in 1940) in 1948. On 30 November 1946, he married Claire Miller at Ashfield; they had one son. John Anthony Bell AO OBE FRSN (born 1 November 1940) is an Australian actor, theatre director and theatre manager. He has been a major influence on the development of Australian theatre in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Rear Admiral Nigel Richard Benbow Berlyn AO (26 August 1934 – 17 February 2022) was a senior Royal Australian Navy officer who was general manager of the Garden Island Dockyard from 1984 to 1987.
