1987 PGA Tour Qualifying School Graduates
This is a list of the 1987 PGA Tour Qualifying School graduates. 54 players earned their 1988 PGA Tour card through Q-School in 1987. The tournament was played over 108 holes at Pine Lakes Golf Club and Matanzas Golf Club, in Palm Coast, Florida. Those earning cards split the $100,000 purse, with the winner earning $15,000. John Huston was the medallist. Jim Hallet finished in second place. After several attempts in the mid-1980s, Hallet finally made it on to the PGA Tour. Several former PGA Tour winners entered the tournament trying to regain full-time status. PGA Tour
The PGA Tour (stylized in all capital letters as PGA TOUR by its officials) is the organizer of professional golf tours in the United States and North America. It organizes most of the events on the flagship annual series of tournaments also known as the PGA Tour, as well as PGA Tour Champions (age 50 and older) and the Korn Ferry Tour (for professional players who have not yet qualified to play on the PGA Tour), as well as PGA Tour Canada, PGA Tour Latinoamérica, and PGA Tour China. Steve Lowery
Stephen Brent Lowery (born October 12, 1960) is an American professional golfer. Lowery was born in Birmingham, Alabama. He has PGA Tour victories in 1994, 2000 and 2008. All three of his victories on the PGA Tour have come in playoffs. Lowery has been featured in the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking. His best season on the PGA Tour was in 1994, when he finished 12th on the money list. He missed most of 2007 with a wrist injury. The PGA Tour granted him a partial exemption for the 2008 season. He needed to win more than $250,000 during his first eight starts in 2008 in order to re-gain his full exemption on the PGA Tour, but that became a moot point when he won the 2008 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Tim Norris
Tim Norris (born November 20, 1957) is a current college head golf coach and a former professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour in the 1980s. Early life Norris was born and raised in Fresno, California. He started his collegiate career at Fresno City College before transferring to Fresno State University. In 1979, he was a second-team All-American, helped lead Fresno State to the Big West Championship, and was the winner of the Sun Bowl Golf Classic. In 1980, he was a first-team All-American, shared Big West ''Athlete-of-the-Year'' honors with Jay Don Blake, helped lead Fresno State to its second Big West Championship in as many years, and was Fresno State's ''Athlete-of-the-Year''. Billy Ray Brown
William (Billy) Ray Brown (born April 5, 1963) is a former American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour in the 1980s and 1990s, and a current on course reporter for Golf Channel and commentator for CBS Sports. Brown was born, raised, and makes his home in Missouri City, Texas. His father, Charlie Brown, played football for the Houston Cougars football and professionally in the CFL and AFL. Billy Ray attended the University of Houston and was a member of the Cougar golf team. He won the 1982 NCAA Division I Championship as a freshman. He was also a member of the 1984 and 1985 national championship teams, and was an All-American all four years. Brown won three PGA Tour events in a career cut short by an injury and subsequent surgeries to his wrist. Mark Brooks (golfer)
Mark David Brooks (born March 25, 1961) is an American professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour Champions. Brooks was born in Fort Worth, Texas. He attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a three-time All-American as a member of the golf team. He turned professional in 1983. Brooks has seven wins on the PGA Tour, including one major, the 1996 PGA Championship. He was a member of the U.S. Presidents Cup team in 1996. During his thirties, Brooks began a second career in golf course design, and was a partner in the firm of Knott-Linn-Brooks House based in Palo Alto, California. His first major project, Southern Oaks Golf Club outside Fort Worth, opened in 1999. After his 50th birthday in 2011, Brooks joined the Champions Tour. Kim Young (American Golfer)
Kim Young (born February 4, 1955) is an American professional golfer. Young played several years on the PGA Tour and its developmental tour, the Ben Hogan Tour/Nike Tour (now Web.com Tour), from 1977 to 1994. On The PGA Tour (1977–78, 1988, 1991–93), his best finish was T-4 at the 1988 Deposit Guaranty Golf Classic. On the Ben Hogan/Nike Tour (1990, 1994), his best finish was a win at the 1990 Ben Hogan Dakota Dunes Open. His tournament golf career was cut short after he lost the vision in his right eye in 1995. Barry Cheesman
Barry Cheesman (born August 29, 1959) is an American professional golfer who played on the Nationwide Tour and the PGA Tour, before getting into golf he was a minor league baseball player. Cheesman was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1977 Major League Baseball Draft with the 613th pick in the 25th round but never made it to the majors, spending four years in the minors. He was a catcher and a pitcher. He played for the Johnson City Cardinals of the Appalachian League and the Calgary Cardinals of the Pioneer Baseball League. He was traded to the California Angels organization in 1979 and played for the Salinas Angels of the California League. Brandel Chamblee
} Brandel Eugene Chamblee (born July 2, 1962) is a former American professional golfer, commentator and writer. Chamblee was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in Speech Communication and was a first-team All-American in his junior year and twice a second-team All-American. Jeff Coston (born October 15, 1955) is an American professional golfer. Biography Coston cites watching Jack Nicklaus tee off in the 1965 Greater Seattle Open Invitational at Inglewood Country Club as the moment he realized he wanted to dedicate his life to golf. He joined the PGA Tour in 1985. That year at the Buick Invitational Championship, a 14-year-old Phil Mickelson carried the scoreboard for the playing threesome of Coston, Steve Pate and Chris Perry. Jim Laver Carter (born June 24, 1961) is an American professional golfer who plays on the Champions Tour. He has also played on the PGA Tour and the Nationwide Tour. Biography Carter was born in Spring Lake, North Carolina. As a high school senior, he led Mesa High's boys golf team to an Arizona state championship in 1979.
